Cruise Moab 2005 - midwest contingency

Trying to figure when people are gonna swing through Chicago so that we can hop in the convoy. As of now, we're planning on departing on April 30, Saturday. Let me know when some of you are going through the Midwest on I-80/I-55.

Thanks.
Ali

Yeah, I made that trip a few times...but being in an 80 with mild tires and lift, ain't too bad.

Canyonlands Airport (connection only from SLC, some $$) some 5-10 miles from town - shuttle available, or Grand Junction (reasonable $$ depending on date) are the closest airports. Too bad no major airline flies into Canyonlands anymore (used to be served by United) but I can see there was no way to please the safety requirements after 9/11 given fence on only one side of the runway. Montrose is another possibility, but either way, you have to estimate >2 hours of driving time to Moab from Grand Junction or Montrose; nice scenery, though. Good luck, Claudia

Thanks Claudia, Grand Junction was the clue I needed!

I am booked on united, landing at GJT at 3:30pm on Thursday, and leaving from there Sunday at 10:30am. If no one's swinging through to pick me up/drop me off at convenient times, then I'll rent a car. I assume I can take a Taurus to the Cruise Moab trailhead/meet-up spot?

The last thing I'll need is a place to stay-- I wonder if anyone will have an extra bed, or someone with a tent will have room, if I bring my sleeping bag.

Looking forward to it,
Kenton

Rental cars are usually quite cheap in Grand Junction; take the Colorado River turn-off to Moab, windy road, but more scenic along the river. You can always make it to the City Market parking lot, which is where the trail rides typically start. Have fun (I won't be able to make it) Claudia

go to slickrock campground...that's where the inspection/registration is, along with the rising sun base camp. there will be plenty of people willing to offer you a seat.

Now, that's what I'm talking about! Congrats. My wife and I got engaged on the Fordyce creek trail (aka Sierra Trek).

See ya there. We'll be at the Slickrock campground.

You need an extra driver? I don't think I'll drive out with my truck but if you need somebody to share gas and chit chat along the way maybe you might twist my arm . Did you finish rehabing your bathroom?

My wife is going with me but we do have two other vehicles that should have empty seats. Send me a PM and we can discuss it offline.

Three vehicles (1 FZJ80, 1 LR, 1 Rubi) will be leaving the Chicagoland area on 7am tomorrow, Saturday for Moab. We're hoping to spend the night in Denver Sat night and show up in Moab on Sunday afternoon.

See y'all there.

Ali
