Enigma, there is a camp ground at the start. You will follow hwy 50 to Ice House Rd. then go up Ice House until you see Loon Lake turn to the right( sign says 4 miles) . You will cross 1 dam then the pavement will end and the campground is immediately to your right. The start area is about 400 yrds past the campground, across the 2nd dam and you will see the road taking you to the bottom of dam where you will find lots of cruisers.

Yes, as John notes, Loon Lake on the Trail head side has ample camping including formal campground and primitive camping. If camping along the trail (or near the trail head) be sure to keep your truck on the trail. The area is very open with lots of granite but the Forest Service is vigilant on ensuring everyone trucks remain 25' from the center line of the trail. I suggest the campground, you can have a fire in the fire ring with permit.
We are entering our first large doss of registrations. I'll post the names at the beginning of the this post as confirmations will not go out for a few more weeks.
Thanks!

I have a couple of noob questions
Is the trail closed durring this event to everyone but people attending the event?
I want to attend but I may not have the $$ for the event and TLCA membership. And I dont have a parking brake so I dont meet the minum safety requirements.
Can I still be on the trail but not be on the official run?
Chris

it is an open trail. We do reserve the entire Rubicon Springs area and you could not participate in Rubithon.
The event is for TLCA members, who pay registration, and have a truck with a parking brake.

Vehicle Inspection Requirements
That site gives you a listing for vehicle requirements for TLCA sponsored events. Rubithon is a great event, so if you can get some sort of working ebrake and come join the fun.

Drag your rig to my shop and we can get a parking brake installed. Cable, micro-lock, etc.

After wheeling in Calico, I realized that I had forgot to finish mine. I did a mock up of mine and sent it off. It is being made at California Push Pull in Chico and they have a 10 day turn around time doorstep to doorstep.
If you decide to go to the Con, we can probably caravan. That is unless I'm still helping TRT2 move.

What about parking brakes and auto's, I only see how you guys test for a manual.
And spare tires, do I really need to carry a spare 38" ? or can and friend and I carry one spare for two vehicles?

yes, two trucks can share a spare... and if your tires are simply huge, and you have experience and a repair kit, we can omit the spare but realize, if you trash a tire, the group will keep moving.
ebrake test on an auto... the inspection team will simply do their best to ensure the system is complete and functional, which could include simply having you demonstrate the ebrake can hold the truck on a hill.
Additionally, Rubithon will allow a line lock on modified trucks which are unable to accept stock configuration ebrakes.
Safety is the primary goal of ... safety inspections. But your committee also realizes that common sense applies and will adjust requirements to suite the group, truck configuration and driver experience.
and new for 2009!!! Inspection teams will be putting a wrench on your steering arm studs. if they are not tight, you will not pass inspection and they will not tighten them for you (due to any damage that might be incurred during tightening). I do plan to include this info in confirmations which will be going out soon.

Anyways, I'm signed up for the wagon run , 8 am Wednesday June 17th. Google tells me its approx 1500 kms/15 hours to Placerville from my house, but I'm a little confused as to what to do. I now understand the camping portion is actually at the end of run, but is there a campsite near the entrance? I plan on being a little early instead of too late.
