Hi all,

my name is Marc and it seems that I am the only European which is stupid enough to bring his own truck to the states for Rubithon.

First I like to thank Peter for his help organising a lot of things for me on this adventure!

Second I like to wish you the best to get your rigs running until the event!
My preparation time has passed by since about 3weeks when the truck moved on the ship from Bremerhaven/ Germany to Port Hueneme CA.

We (my wife and me) have modified tons of things on our 94 Turbo Diesel 4Runner for our wedding trip of 6weeks through CA, NV, AZ, UT,... Most of the mods we did to help the old Runner be ready for you on the Wednesday Wagon run which we'll be part of! We can't wait the day we will meet you all! Hopefully we will not be bad prepped for it!

If possible we would like to meet you on Tuesday at the camp site jsuthey rented at Ice house!
Please let me know if possible?

Our 4Runner is stuffed with everything for six weeks so our storage is nearly full but the space we have left will be there to carry other maniacs stuff! Maybe yours Peter?

I think I will fill the beer in my 20gallon aux fuel cell!

Below is a pic of our Grocery getter shortly before departure! Only the 150pound roof tent is missing on it!

See you there,

Marc & Kathrin

Good looking rocker panels on that Hilux 4Runner. They may not look like that in a few weeks! See you there.

Speaking of which, do you need a CB radio for that truck? I have a couple of spares and a spare antenna.

@cruiserdrew
Oh I forgot to list: I also added front skid and rock sliders after I made the picture!

Do you think CB is necessary? At the moment I only have an Hilift and a personal toilet with me!

@Peter,
see you Thursday??

@Pismojim,
this videos made me sure I have some some changes to do on the Runner!
Three months ago it was IFS,33BFG AT, no lockers and only 2" lifted! "My wifes daily driver."

See you,
Marc

He, he, I was trying to explain this trip to my boss, who is a non-wheeler...started with the whole legendary status of the Rubicon trail, then the history of the TLCA, my own 12-yr cross-Atlantic membership, then got into Rubithon itself, people coming from 20 different states, Canada, France, Germany, Venezuela, and closed with Marc's rig being shipped out from Germany....by the end, he was looking at me slack-jawed, like I was part of some insane tribe....little does he know!

I can't explain how much I am looking forward to this trip, I don't expect to do much sleeping the week before or during the event!

If I do not have a registration for you and some $$, you will not be receiving anything at Rubithon. Registration cut off was 6/1... counts going in today.

Again, if you have not registered, or ensured your stuff is listed on someone else's registration, you will not be receiving anything at Rubithon.

If you are flying in, make sure someone has you covered or that you have provided me information on what you want.

It is pretty much too late... but thought I would remind folks... no data, no stuff.

Do not respond here, reply directly to me if you have issues.

Now start packing...

You got choices?
Thats a supreme offer from the US Brotherhood of Cruisers, take it! QUICK!

Honestly ....the camp is between wednesday morning starting point and placerville.......its packed with cruiserheads that awaiting you.....what more could you ask for, its the perfect spot to be if you are going to join rubithon-TLCA folks and sleep in a tent.
If someone has a free seat to offer he will know where you are to find.

........what was the question again? YES THAT IS A PERFECT CHOICE!

@Henry: I told you....... IīLL BE BACK...........

For all the Tuesday night campers-I would like to hook up. I plan to camp at the very start of the run. We have camped there several times. If the group is going to be hanging out in the Loon sites just before the dam, we'll walk up and hang out. It would be nice to do most if not all of the inspections (required, sorry) on Tuesday night.

I have not yet seen the assigned CB frequency, but I'll be tuned to that, or preferably, you can reach me anytime Tuesday on 2meter radio-I'll be monitoring 146.460 MHz. My call is KI6CXS. During the wagon run, we'll keep the group together with the 2m. I know 4 and possibly 5 of the rigs have legal 2m. I'll keep the CB on as well, but I've never been happy with how it works on group runs where we spread out.

For Peter and the international crowd--I'd send you my cell phone, but it really won't work up at Loon Lake-you are welcome to try it. See your PMs.

Just a FYI> For CB channel, there will be a channel asigned at your driver meeting prior to run but you can count on always running the date as the channel and get someone in the event.

For those of you coming from overseas, you are aware that this trail is generally run in 1 direction with the exit being a good 2 hr. pavement drive from the start. I mention this so if you have left a vehicle at the start(Loon) you be sure and secure a ride back to Loon on Sunday as most vehicles will be going out the other way. There are plenty going back to Loon you just need to organize a ride once you get to the Springs.

Another FYI for travelers, at the trail head there is a Kiosk building with a message board where you can post/leave info or notes for others and tell them to look there for it. It is a great way to communicate with people arriving or leaving at different times than you.

Thanks for the hints and suggestions, we may leave one rental at loon and one at tahoe so we got both ways covered.
We will look around the campgrounds on tuesday to meet up with some of you folks.

Rubicon Trail Camping Info

Camping is allowed anywhere along the trail and at the Loon Lake Staging area. Be advised, stay within 50' of the centerline of the trail. $275 fine for driving or camping off the trail on either side by 25'. No camping within100' of water/Lakes/Rivers.
* Link to detailed GPS co-ordinates. Get this info and don't get lost! Go!
More from Del:
Rubicon Trail Restrictions (50 feet Right of Way)
By Court Order (due to a lawsuit filed in 2005 against the USDA Forest Service), all vehicles must remain within 25 feet of centerline of the Rubicon Trail -- a non-maintained county road.
In other words, the USFS property on both sides of the Rubicon Trail are temporarily closed to vehicles. You must keep your vehicle within the county easement (50 feet total). Signs are up but are not always reliable. FOTR and county Sheriff personnel try to keep the signage current, but you can't count on it. You must know where the trail is.
Buy books; use a current map; download GPS info from reliable souces; follow the signs; and learn where the real trail is before you go.
Fines range from $175 to $275 or more for violations of the 50 foot easement (25 feet of centerline).
Note: you can camp or walk any where you want; you just can't take your vehicle outside the easement. This does not apply to private property such as the Rubicon Soda Springs area.

to paraphrase, you can camp almost anywhere, but your trucks needs to stay within the trail 50' swath, or 25' of centerline. No warnings, just tickets this year.

PETT toilets are available at a lot of spots. Roundeyes has them (outbacktoilets):

http://www.outbacktoilets.com/

There is a "disposable" cardboard one -- good for a weekend trip.

http://www.outbacktoilets.com/OutBac...rd_Toilet.html

I have this one --- Had it for 3 years now. Very handy:

Tony, you are sending mixed messages that is causing some confusion. In your post above you write:
Quote:
$275 fine for driving or camping off the trail on either side by 25'
BUT in the same post Del writes:
Quote:
Note: you can camp or walk any where you want; you just can't take your vehicle outside the easement.
My understanding is the situation is that stated by Del, i.e., the vehicle needs to remain within the easement, but you can camp outside that easement as long as it is not on private property such as at Spyder.
