I'm very excited. I'm picking up my co-pilot, navigator, photographer, all around good guy on Tuesday in Reno. And from there onward. To be honest, I'll be happy with about anything. If we drive all night, all day, whatever. I'm just excited to be there.

As always it's going to be nice to put face to function and meet the guys behind the rigs, comments, pm's, etc. (and see if the all the talk matches the drive). One of my favorite parts.

"Captain Drew" Just bring the stape gun in case the other eye feels neglected and decides to do something about it.

My Rock lights are on! I got the flight plan for co-pilot this afternoon. His flight gets into Reno at 10:45 pm Tuesday night. So we are going to have our own night run getting to the trail head in the morning. And his plane leaves at 6:30 AM Sunday morning from Reno so probably a evening/night run headed out too. It's all good. I'm on vacation all week.

Eric,

I got an e-mail from your copilot. It's really great that he can make it.

Regards

Alvaro

Sounds good! I figure we will know when it is time to leave. I've been trying to figure out what to do on the other end after we leave. Do I camp close to the trail end or do I drive to town right away? My wife says we should just go stay at a Casino in Reno. I've actually been trying to convince her to fly down Sunday and we could go visit some friends who live in Vacaville.

Couple of things -- It's a long drive from Rubicon Springs to Reno. Figure 4 maybe 5 hours, depending on how long it takes to get up Cadillac. If you leave after dinner, I would drive most of the way there. However, if you are going to turn around and drive down to Vacaville, have your buddy check on a flight out of Sacramento. It would be much, much easier.

There is a place to camp before staging area (Miller lake?), but you'll still be a couple of hours from Reno. If he has a 6 AM flight, I'd power all the way into Reno, get a room, take him to the airport, and then go back to the room. Peppermill usually has decent rates, and is very close to the airport.

Funny, I remember talking to Tom Ways about his 45 min run from the springs to Tahoe City..

We won't be going that fast.. Figure at least 2.5 hrs for the drive out and then another hour hourand a half to Reno.

Grab a hotel (something that says "truckers welcome" most likely, I see no reason to get the honeymoon suite with someone who feels that a red Swingline is a loved one...), then sleep till I have to drop luke off. I am positive that the people sitting next to him on the plane would appreciate him taking a shower

Yeah -- but Tahoe City Ain't Reno. And that was Tom in a rock buggy vs Eric in an 80.

I guess my point is that you could camp above caddy, but you'll need to leave at 3 or 4 AM to get him to the airport in time. And 5 days of trail dust ain't pretty

I'm not sure what is going to happen. My wife already suggested the hotel deal. So that is the plan for Sat. night. If she comes down she'll fly into Reno and my co-pilots flights arrive and depart from Reno. Reno flights are cheap from Idaho, she can get a one way for less than $100. Those gambling cities have awesome airfares!

Sam-Remember we discussed the effects of vitamin T, right? Your job during this weekend is to stay healthy and unbloodied. If you don't, though, I'm going to make you wish you had.

Tony wants a healthy and safe run for everyone. I do too. If you want to let it rip, do that only after we are in Rubicon Springs. I was only kidding about telling your mom.
