Exclamation Omnibus Land Act of 2008

I know you are concerned about closures of our public lands. The Omnibus Land Act of 2008 is a massive land grab bill that will lock up millions of additional acres of public land, close thousands of miles of recreation trails, harm already struggling rural economies, further reduce renewable resource harvesting, be detrimental to forest health by eliminating all forest management, restrict property rights and hamstring energy exploration in the United States.

If there were awards for bad legislation this bill might take first, second & third, but unless more people speak up it is likely to pass. Please take two minutes to submit a pre drafted letter to legislators opposing this bill by clicking below

Two minutes of your time is urgently needed to preserve access to your public lands. In a last minute move the newly elected Congress may vote as early as Tomorrow-Sunday without adequate public input on Omnibus Land Bill S22. This massive land grab bill that will lock up millions of additional acres of public land, close thousands of miles of recreation trails, harm already struggling rural economies, further reduce renewable resource harvesting, be detrimental to forest health by eliminating all forest management, restrict property rights and hamstring energy exploration in the United States. Click the link below & your letter will be sent directly to the decision makers. Please take a few minutes to help convince them to vote against the S.22 Land Grab Act.

Thanks to the thousands who have already submitted their letters, but letters are still needed from those who have not yet written. If you are not sure if you have taken action please submit a letter, the program will tell you if you already sent a letter.

Feel free to link this to any blogs you like; I don't do blogs.

In general, Omnibus bills do not have a record of properly addressing an issue as much as showing an interest by the sponsors in wielding a big broom to sweep something under the carpet they don't have the time or patience to properly deal with. Unfortunately, this public lands bill smacks of more 'business as usual' avoidance by Congress of careful, thoughtful consideration over our MOST VALUABLE NATURAL RESOURCE: OUR PUBLIC LANDS!

1. These areas have all been evaluated for additional management actions by the FEDERAL AGENCIES already paid with taxpayer money to provide stewardship of these areas, and they have made NO DETERMINATION that additional management action was required. This legislation does an end-run around the very agencies that have THE MOST INSIGHT into these areas. This type of action seems more than inappropriate: THIS LEGISLATION UNDERMINES THE AUTHORITY OF FEDERAL AGENCIES!

2. At a time when the Federal government needs to spend all it's time and resources on trying to get our economy back on it's feet, this bill goes in the opposite direction, creating billions of dollars in new unfunded mandates that would be required to impliment this unneeded legislation, just so we can have even more bureaucracy that usurps current legitimate land use agencies. THIS IS NOT SOUND FISCAL POLICY.

Please use my tax dollars to wisely improve the economy thru infrastructure projects, and let the Federal land use agencies who have authority over these areas continue to manage them with the multiple-use, sustained yields principles that Congress has already required them to use.

Thank you.

Mark Algazy, Esq.

Sent emails to my Senators two weeks ago and got responses back within a couple days.

Use this link to read more about the current Omnibus Land Management Act of 2009:

And enter your zip code in the form to get email links for contacting your district's Representatives and Senators.

BLUERIBBON COALITION LAND USE UPDATE

Giant Omnibus Bill Goes Down by 1 Vote!!

Greg Mumm, BRC's Executive Director, just called me from Washington D.C. He told me that the infamous Omnibus Public Lands bill, commonly known as "S. 22," failed by 1 vote in the House.

The Omnibus Public Lands Management Act of 2009 had been fast-tracked through the U.S. Senate and had been expected to pass the House earlier today. Tell me one vote doesn't count! The bill is over 1,200 pages long with over 160 different bills, designates 2.2 million acres of Wilderness, identifies three new national parks, 10 national heritage areas, and designates over 1,000 miles of wild and scenic rivers.

We'll have details later. Thanks to all who made calls and emailed on this bill.

S.22 Omnibus Lands now H.R. 146

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Omnibus Public Lands Bill to be Voted on Monday, March 16!
Call your Senators NOW!

The American Motorcyclist Association urges everyone to contact their Senators to vote "No" on H.R. 146, the Revolutionary War and War of 1812 Battlefield Acquisition Grant Program. This bill was formerly known as S. 22, the Omnibus Public Land Management Act of 2009, which would prohibit all motorized vehicle access including motorcycles and ATVs on over 2 million acres of public lands. As you may know, S. 22 was defeated just days ago on March 11 in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Now, following defeat of the bill, the U.S. Senate leadership is expected to employ a little used parliamentary procedure that allows them to overcome the outcome of the House vote on S. 22.

The U.S. House of Representatives preserved your access to vital public lands when S. 22 fell two votes short of the two-thirds majority needed to pass on March 11th. The successful defeat of the bill was only accomplished after thousands of concerned individuals, like you, contacted their Representatives to tell them to oppose the legislation. However, the Senate Leadership wants to try and un-do that success by bringing the bill back as a 1,300 page amendment to an unrelated bill for a vote as early as Monday.

With such a short time frame for action, the best way to tell your Senators to vote "No" on H.R. 146 is to call. Click here to get the phone number for your Senators. Enter your zip code in the "Find Your Officials" box and click on the name of your Senators.

If you would prefer to contact your Senators with e-mail, you may contact your Senators by clicking here. We have pre-written a letter for your use.

Immediate action is critical to help keep 2.1 million acres of public land open to motorized recreation. Please call your Senators and tell everyone you can to do the same.

Next week, every Senator must know to vote "No" on H.R. 146!
