Ca. wheelers: El Dorado forest Route Designation info flier

If you are camping or wheeling ANYWHERE in the ELDO National Forest (That includes the 'CON) PLEASE DISTRIBUTE TO AS MANY PEOPLE AS POSSIBLE. Trust me, it will be well worth the effort.

Thanks in advance for your support

Copy and paste into Word. You may have to format it a little to make it more presentable.

Flyer begins HERE:

Over 1000 miles of roads in this forest are being closed to vehicles!!

Most people are unaware of what is happening within the Eldorado National Forest.
Under the Route Designation Program the forest service is proposing to close over 1000 miles of mostly dirt roads to any motorized vehicle traffic, this includes street legal vehicles as well as motorcycles, and ATVs. If you have ever driven off of the pavement in this forest, most likely one of the roads you have been on is going to be closed. There are approximately 3200 miles of forest system roads, after the decision is signed there could be at best 2214 miles and possibly as low as 1376 miles, that is over 50% of roads in the forest that could be closed! This is something that is not way down the road, it is happening now. The decision will be released to the public in June, we then have only 45 days to make comments on it and our comment can make a difference. Changes have already been made due to input for groups, organizations and even individuals so everyone needs to voice there concerns.

So what can you do?

First, get as informed on what is happening as you can. Go to the Eldorado National Forest website and look at “Route Designation Project”

http://www.fs.fed.us/r5/eldorado/pro...te/index.shtml

if you look under PRELIMINARY ALTERNATIVES it will show you 5 alternatives, alternative A,B,C,D and E. keep in mind alternative A is not an option, so there are really only 4 choices.

Second, send an email to eldoradoroutes@fs.fed.us and ask to be put on their email list and they will advise you of upcoming phone meetings and town meetings that will have information on what is going on.

Third, when the EIS draft is released you MUST make comments on specific roads that you feel should remain open and why. There will only be a 45 day comment period, after that there is nothing you can do.

Forth, get as many people involved as you can, don’t sit back and let this happen without a fight.

Camping in this forest is suppose to be a fun and exciting time for everyone, but without the roads that get you to those campsites, or places you just like to ride, the fun will be gone. Let’s do something and keep the roads and trails open that have been here for decades.
If you have no interest in this information please pass it on to someone who may be.
Please do not litter.

Eldorado DEIS plan

The DEIS is out for the Eldorado Forest but the plan is a killer for OHV use. There are five alternatives in the plan. Alt A is no action and alt E is to close the forest. The FS preferred plan is D, just above closure. If you recreate in the Eldorado NF you MUST come to one of the public meetings or write a comment letter on the plan or the forest will disappear.

The Travel Management Update and the Travel Management Draft Environmental Impact Statement are now available on the Eldorado National Forest website. To access the latest project update, including the dates, times and locations of the public information meetings, as well as information on submitting comments, click on the following link:

A motorcycle friend of mine says the program is flawed for us (4x4 folk) because the time to have spoke up for desired trails was last year when they were drafting up the maps, not now that the maps are already made. He (Motorcycle friend) says he and several from his trail riding group attended several meetings last year to help create the maps and talk about their favorite riding spots and are only loosing 1 trail on this new map "Alt. D . I'd like to think we're organized enough to make a big impact, but this is a big ball to have been dropped . The fire we went to last month's meetings with SHOULD HAVE BEEN harnessed last year when our requests would have counted and they were designing the maps. Am I missing something here? It seems to me that we (Cal 4Wheel members, Blue Ribbon Coalition members, at least) should have received a heads up to this trail planning a year ago when we could have made a difference (not that we didn't in last few weeks). I caught wind of these meetings from the Pirate4x4 board. Kudos to all who attended the meetings over the last few months, but I think we as wheelers need to be able to rely on those who have their fingers in the political arena to keep us apprised of the goings on in our backyards... and get more involved in the political arenas ourselves. I'll be the first to admit when I'm wrong, and I'd love to prove my motorcyclist friend wrong, but I get the feeling he's right. THAT'S NOT TO SAY WE SHOULD GIVE UP!!!!! Can somebody clarify for me, please?
