This area behind the bumper where those metal pipes are..... Should there be like a splash guard mat material there or a plastic one to keep crap from getting in or hitting?

The stock bumper covered that P/S cooler (aka Paperclip)

Put a winch in front of it. That will protect it.

... yep, winch is a good start. And below it a nice airtank for your onboard air, that also protects your paperclip

If you wheel the truck in rocks enough, the bumper will start to fold back and cover that area. They're good for that, I guess?
