Can someone tell me what is the purpose of this hose? It's going from the tranny to the transfer case.
The manual I have shows I'm supposed to check the oil right around where it comes into the transfer case.

....and that's why I bought one. Here soon, when I drain and replace the transmission & transfer case gear oil with some Red Line MT-90, I'm going to install Lou Hagler's hose.

This Stainless Steel braided hose will compliment the Stainless Steel bolts I'm using when needed....Some "BLING" for under my rig! :hillbilly:

Thanks Guys, I should replace my hose. Looks very cracked.
So, is this where you also check the oil? Seems like an odd place to check the oil, but I noticed on older FJ's that didn't have this hose, that seems to be where you check from.

My understanding is that if the seal between transfer and gearbox goes the pressure pulls the oil from one into the other. This hose is added to equalize that pressure and keep everything working how it should. So yeah you'd check oil levels in the same spot because it's not really meant to be there

Lets oil from your transfer case back into the transmission, the reason is transmission oil gets passed the seal and leaks in the transfer case, this hose feeds it back to the transmission. Its a fix that has been around for more years than I can remember.

pic of an early version which came on my 45LPB ;)
