After thinking about it a while, I've decided to get a Warn Powerplant for my FJ60. After the conversion to 5.3, there's just no place to put an ARB compressor in the engine bay and with the powerplant I get more CFM than the double ARB and a winch for about the same total price if I bought a regular winch and ARB separately. (not exactly true, but it's my story).

So my question is, the 12000 lb version is only $100 more then the 9500 version. Everything I could find says that 9500 is enough for an FJ60. Is there any reason not to buy the 12,000 lb winch?

What do you wheel with? Will the 9,500 be enough to winch them if needed? I personally would go with the 12,000 because it's only $100 more and you have more pulling capacity.

Since I've had my 9500 power plant winch for 5 years, it has seen some work. I am happy with its performance, that being said I recently confirmed that the platform of the two is identical so I could sell the 9500 and buy the 12000 without any fab/changes whatsoever.
I originally felt the 12000 was overkill and now wish I had gotten it. But I don't think it was only $100 different then, don't remember.

How much difference in weight is there between the two? Weight adds up pretty quickly when you start building these rigs.

The only major differences besides the pulling capacity are the rope specs. The 9500 has 125' of 5/16" steel rope; the 12000 has 80' of 3/8/. Plus, the 9500 has a bit faster line speed. Otherwise, they are comparable.

Oh, the PowerPlant 12 weighs 15 lbs. more than the 9500.

Thanks for all the input. I wheel with a lot of different people. Interestingly, the 12000 and 9500 appear to have the exact same motor 4.6hp motor, so I assume the 12000 just has slightly lower gearing, which would explain the slightly lower line speed. Otherwise, they appear to be identical.
