At times like these I'm glad I have lots and lots of good used spare parts for both FJ60s and FJ62s (and FJ40s). Hopefully the parts that need to be replaced with new (e.g., consumables) will be available aftermarket for a while. One can only hope.

Are parts disappearing quickly because nothing more is being produced and when the last remaining stock sells all is gone, or is TOYOYA actively throwing away parts, unsold?
I know that years ago GM literally threw away millions of parts, unsold because they didn't want them in their inventory any longer. It was related to taxes, and how much they had to pay to keep parts on a shelf.

Toyota does the same thing, takes back excess parts from dealership shelves for credit, and tosses them in a dumpster headed to the metal shredder. It's a business, not a rare Cruiser adoption group.

Plenty of parts here...if you're willing to go to the dark side...

Remember how SOR acquired all the 40 parts years ago...Toyota pulled truck fulls of parts to his door and said here you go! I don't think that will happen again with 60/62 parts, but who knows?

That's a thing of the past. That will never happen again.

Toyota is now required to destroy/recycle all obsolete parts.

Funny, my wife just asked me last night why a company hasn't ponied up the money and started buying up the disappearing 60 series parts before they are destroyed. Can't they "sell" them to someone for a $1 if they can't give them away? :D

Ok, I'm going to pollute this thread with a data dump, but I think seeing this info again (which I originally posted in chat) puts things into perspective >

We FJ60 owners live in a dream world. We forget just how BIG Toyota is and what they have to deal with.

Only two late 2F kits remain:

Early 1980-1984 Engine gasket kit: 04111-61044

Valve Grind kit (aka: HG kit): 04112-61041 (1980-1987)

That's it.

How is the engine gasket kit different from the valve grind kit? Also are gaskets available individually?

Engine gasket kit does the entire engine.

Valve grind kit only does the HG and above (just enough gaskets and seals to take the head off and back on).

Yes, gaskets are available separately. If you added them up separately, they are almost 3 times what they cost in kit form.

What no love for the TOYOTA BLIZZARD 1980-1990?

Toyota is now required to destroy/recycle all obsolete parts.

or more accurately stated, "Toyota now requires Toyota to destroy all parts Toyota decides are obsolete".

like a snake swallowing its own tail...

Are the gaskets themselves being discontinued or just the kit?
