Since we're doing this, may as well add the image of the Check Connector (from a 1991):

To obtain an output of diagnostic codes, proceed as follow:
1. Initial conditions
(a) Battery voltage 11 volts or more
(b) Throttle valve fully closed (throttle position sensor
IDL points closed)
(c) Transmission in neutral position
(d) Accessories switched OFF
(e) Engine at normal operating temperature
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Do not start the engine.
3. Using SST, connect terminals TE1 and E1 of the check connector.
SST 09843–18020 (Or, you could use a paper clip)
4. Read the diagnostic code as indicated by the number of
flashes of the ”CHECK” engine warning light.

To the OP - Just out of curiosity and the fact that I still have not fixed my 0402 egr code, what code did you get?

Update: this is from the 1993 manual, with a little more information:

Not sure if you got your answer but yes it works, I did it today.

I know this is forever old. I don't have a CEL on atm, but in case I do, what is meant by "jumping" the pins. What does that mean exactly.
