just picked up a 2009 chevy express 2500 van... when you start up and move around yard it is fine but if you leave it in park and idling for about 20 min. it will not shift into drive ...shut it off for about 10 minutes and you can shift it to drive and it will go again no problem

any help or advice is greatly appreciated

Is it setting any codes? Sounds possibly like the EPC (Electronic Pressure Control) solenoid has failed.

Without codes, it’ll be harder to pinpoint. As I say, I’d start by checking the EPC.

If you can plug in a scantool while driving, it may give you some indication of what is happening.
