Testing a winch motor,

Hi all, Im rebuilding a warn highmount winch and Im looking for some advice about the motor.

Is it possible to confirm that the motor is working buy connecting a starter pack to the terminals on the motor? (the motor is out of the winch and Im trying to bypass the solinoids? )

Yes. Hook one jumper cable to the ground (case of the motor if there is not a stud on it) and the other to either terminal. The two terminals turn the the motor in a different direction (for in and out on the winch).
