Temp gauge dropping out (1 Viewer)

My temp gauge flat lines sometimes. Usually it is working fine, but not always. I insulated the wire with some electrical tape and it worked for a couple weeks, now it's back. I'm thinking of splicing in a new wire and connector where it comes out of the water pump. Have any other 3fe guys out there dealt with this before?

Also, Seems like the idle is worse when it cuts out. I toggled the wire yesterday when idling warm and couldn't get it to come to life.

Seems pretty normal for our trucks. You can get s new sender to see if that fixes things but most guys say to invest in better gauges all together and mount them elsewhere.
