mini truck axle = bad idea. 5" too narrow and turning radius issues with the often used 31.5" spring centers that most Taco swaps utilize.

Go Diamond... best solution if you want to keep a Toyota-like build.
 
It depends on what you are running, leaf springs or coils/overs for the 80 axle. I just swaped one under my Taco using coils. The only thing that is wrong with these axles are the steering. The leaf springs get in the way of the drag link and the tie rod gets in the way of the links. I would build my own axle housing if I were going to do it again, but since not to many people know how to go with a Diamond. Whatever you do dont use the mini axle. The truck will handle like crap unless you put huge wheel spacers on it.
