Steering/suspensio bushings..what to replace??

Discussion in '80-Series Tech' started by Cancruiser, May 16, 2012.

  1. I'm going to install Slee caster correction bushings + the rear (chassis side) leading arm bushings. I thought while I'm in there maybe I should replace as many steering/suspension bushings as possible (most are due anyway).

The questions is, what do I replace? I am looking for bushings that are easy to access and quick to change. Any suggestions or pictures would be great..

Age is not a much of an issue to me as miles and how hard it may of been worked over the years. If the truck was mostly a highway cruiser with little to low miles off road. Has not seen much in the way of Mag Cloride. Then I would not replace anything else. But the best way to know is to look at the bushing and seeing if the inner steel insert is pulling way from the rubber.
  3. The thing is, the history of the truck is unknown to me. I have bought it 4 years ago (imported from Japan) and it is already 23 years old, so probably rubber bushings have dried/perished just from sitting around.
Plus, I have some steering issues (wandering, looseness..etc) so any little bit helps.

I looked up the FSM and so far all I can find are these two in the picture below. Are there any other ones?

Same question. Mine is a '94 if it makes a difference.
  9. I think it does make a difference. Mine is a '91 and found a couple of bushings in mine are different from what Akella posted up there. But the majority are correct.
  10. So, I ordered the front (and some rear) bushings. But to my dismay, I found the OEM ones (front and rear) don't fit the stabilizer bar that is on my truck (see item # 48815 circled on the drawing in post #3 above). My front and rear stabilizer bar don't seem to be stock and have a larger diameter (see pics below). I measure the diameters as:
    Front: 1.217" (30.91 mm)
    Rear: 1.0905" (27.7 mm)

I think they were part of a lift or upgrade by the previous owner. Now what do I do? Where do I get rubber bushings for them??

Sorry, Akella, I didn't see your offer for the bushings at the time when I ordered. I would have rather bought them off you.. But, I may still take the bolts and nuts and a few other ones from the rear that I didn't get. Let me make a small list and PM it to you.
