So, why do AT tires whine more after some time? (1 Viewer)

Yup, mulling the meaning of life and all that...

Noticing a big difference in the noise mine are making on the freeway compared to when they were newer some years back. Much louder now.

Is it more age or more the wear, you think? Why?

bit of both, plus the aging of the rubber.

I've got 18 months on my KO2's and have noted minimal road noise increase...first tire I've EVER had that didn't get noticeably louder.

they do pay attention to the spacing of the lugs to minimize noise so I imagine that when tall lugs become shorter that would affect vibration and resonance maybe. My MT/Rs have quite a few years on them so maybe the rubber just got much harder, that would also affect the noise I'm sure.
I'm leaning more towards aging of the rubber as cause for the increase in noise as they still have 1/2 the original tread depth.
