Three years in a row now the fuel pump / filter unit of my Avalanche 2004 brakes down and needs to be replaced.

Are there more bad experiences with this issue. If so has there been found a solution of by passing this with another pump and filter?

old post...but no, the gm pump should not be a problem. I assume you do not continually run it low on gas and have good/reasonable quality gas where you are?.... got to swap out the fuel filter out times but thats about it, fuel pump should normally last a long time.

Don't run it low on gas, especially started filling this one earlier then any other vehicle.

It must be the quality of gas that they run here. Pump #6 is in now. So go figure.

Imho the pump is very small and all plastic and the filter on top of it is even smaller. It seems to clog up pretty fast with dirt and then the small pump gives up fast.

That's the only issue this truck has had, the last 4 years there hasn't been any other issue.

Are the avalanches of the newer years (newer model) considered to be still the same quality?
