I'm reinstalling my lifters ('67 F) and was wondering if I need to fill them with oil before putting them into their respective bores. Since these are solid and not hydraulic, I assume that this cavity just aids in lubrication. Is this a correct assumption?

Just dunk them in oil and slide them in. As you said they are solid so there is nothing to fill.
