Why don't I see more lead chains as used on the military 5 ton trucks such as deuce? Is there a reason more off road users don't use a lead chain? The OEM 40 PTO had one.
I'd like to understand this better so those with experience please chime in.
Thanks,
Chris

I don't know why they don't put them on but not having them reduces the temptation to wrap the chain around live trees and have to use a proper strap that doesn't damage the tree instead

its not good to hook the cable to itself .when it comes to military trucks when your stuck and someone is shooting at you trees just dont matter .the chain will do less damage than a cable wrapped around a tree .but a tree saver strap is so widely use d now that the chain is probably not needed for most uses .and that chain would prbably add 50.00 bucks to the winch price.on my civy trucks i carry a small chain to wrap around truck frames or other sharp objects ,my military trucks and my cruiser already have the chains on the cable .good luck
