great thread!

I'll be back w/ my top/bottom 10.

Mean time: I'd like to see a little more explanation of why something was awesome or awful.

Ex: onboard C02 for me is stupid: my little compressor takes 10 minutes to fill all four 31x10.50 tires from 18 to 32psi. It also runs my locker. But if I had 37's, I might feel very different. So ... I'm just asking folks to explain what they love about their top 10 mods because not everyone rolls the same way ...

Mod #1 for me: Tuffy console. I love being able to lock up my wallet/cellphone when I'm surfing. Otherwise it would have beeen stolen by now (the tuffy has repelled at least one theft attempt, the doors have both been broken into at least once).

I also really like the roller drawer in back, same reasons.
But I like my OME lift more, and at under $1,000, it really made a huge difference.

I do like my George LEDs, but could have lived forever without 'em.

More to follow, must go refill beverage.

My favorite mods

1-OME 3"
2-35 BFG's
3-5:29's
4-ARB front
5-T-Maxx winch
6-Homemade dual batterys
7-Homemade tire carrier
8-Scion upgrade/Satelite Radio
9-Aussie Locker-rear

Worst
1-456 gears for 33"s
2-Procomp Mud Terrains
3-Flowmaster muffler( now with the 529's, on the highway it now is stuck in the powerband, making it loud on the highway.

Future mods

1- Quiet the exhaust
2-Cheap Marlin Sliders
3-Install my 529's for the front soon.
4-Snorkel so I can give a stupid answer to people who wonder what it is.

It's never too late to add my dirty dozen mods:
1. ScanGauge II -- Monitor your coolant temp while driving. $150
2. Alpine speakers -- Front-door spkrs made the most diff, but rears help. $104
3. HIR low beams -- Didn't get them while they were cheap, but nice upgrade. $59
4. FIAMM horns -- Sounds like a large American car. $16
5. LEDs in doors/domes -- Save your battery. $50
6. Fischer and Land Rover cup holders -- Two more cup holders. $45
7. Replaced PHH with a blue silicone hose and constant torque clamps.
8. 100-series front brake pads -- brakes last longer.
9. Revos 285s -- To drive mostly on the hwy with the occassional offroad trip.
10. Hanna sliders to protect against catalytic thieves...and rocks.
11. Slee ShortBus front bumper to protect against on-coming traffic.
12. OME 850/860 level stance suspension lift.

Worst mods that I've done:
1. Switching from green to red without a full flush and clogging the radiator. I ended up w/new 94 brass radiator. Toyota red is hard to find while you are on the road away from home.
2. Pinstriping all around the sides from wild brush while offroading.

Mods that I still want to do:
1. Accessory 12v plugs for the second row.
2. OEM switches for CDL and Aux Lights -- Can't believe they are so expensive.
3. Second battery tray to store tools in engine compartment.
4. Rear lid from WagonGear.
5. Head unit with a rear camera, navigation, and satellite radio.

Found this & after 10+ yrs ownership I'll say:

'97 Toy Normal Ed. - Black & Grey one

Bests:

1.) Slee's basic transfer case plate
2.) Sliders - I have Slee, but any is worth doing if you see rockers all beat & the $$$ to fix
3.)Winch bumper, even if you don't fill the hole right away, you're set to
4.)OE switch for the transfer case - lets you lock in high or go open in low range, just gives options
5.)Rear bumper, mainly to get the spare up & convienient - wings for quarterpanel protection are nice
6.)Headlight relay harness - really lets you get more light for a lot less than buying whole new housings

Worsts.

1.) Optima batteries - I fell for the hype & they just don't last like a wet cell - I tried red & burned out fast, so got a yellow - same story - went back to a red, but only because they all were under warrenties - even still, it doesn't have a lot of reserve in it, so if you left the dome lights on for a decent period (like doing a under-dash job with the door open), expect to put a charger on it. Next time it burns out I'm out of any warrenties & I'm going back to a wet cell.

Wish list:

Wagongear's tailgate storage locker - if it wasn't for the price, I'd have one already, but quality costs.

1997 Lx450

Best:
1. TJM lift with adjustable shocks
2. Infinity speakers and jvc headunit
3. Husky Liners
4. CDL lock
5. HID headlight mod
6. Tinted Windows
7. LR cup holder
8. Rechargeable flashlight for 12v

Worst:
1. Front wind deflector
2. Yokohama tires
3. Seat gear pieces. Bust immediately after instal.
4. Ebay taillights. Never worked with the stock plug correctly. Cancels cruise control out when lights are on. Gonna spring for some higher quality ones soon.
