So I'm curious. I've sank money into many a off-road vehicle. And often times the mod I like the best is some cheap item. So the question.. if you only had $100 to spend on your FJ, what would you buy?

I would probably go with differential breather kit.

E locker actuator skid plate.

You can build a diff breather kit for way less than $100

For me - Husky liners...were like 50-60 bucks. Best money I have spent.

Next best money is rear LCA skids. If you touch any rocks, these pay dividends.

LCA's for under $100? Not that I disagree that upgraded LCA's are critical if one off-roads, they were 2nd on my mod list for the FJC...

SKIDS. Rear LCA mount skids to be more specific.

one trip out

I agree on the sliders. Protecting your investment is always a good idea. Rather pay for armor than repairs any day of the week!

I just got and installed the side sliders. LCA front and rear sliders aare next on my list.

@iwashmycar, who makes those LCA skids?
I'm going to answer my own question on this one. The rear LCA skids shown in post #9 are made by RockTek, but as far as I can tell from my web searches are not available any more. But RCI Metalworks makes something similar that I found here: http://www.purefjcruiser.com/skid-p..._781_783/1014-fj-lower-link-skids-p-5857.html. Anyone have experience with the RCI ones? They look like this:

Total Chaos also makes one and it looks like this:

And are available from here: http://www.fjcruiseraccessory.com/totalchaosfjcruiserlowerlinkskidplatekit.html

Redline also makes rear LCA mount skids: http://redlinelandcruisers.com/product/fjc-rear-link-sliders-red-line-2007-2014-fj-cruisers/

(EDIT: added link to Redline)

I was thinking of getting the ones by total chaos. I believe Icon makes some as well.

Those RCI ones look interesting. I would question their strength if you come down at a hard angle on them...without sides I think they would still crush the OEM tissue paper mounts..

I think they can still be had

If powdercoated RCIs are $130, its a no-brainer to go with Rockteks for 140....

Upon researching the rear LCA skids further, I see that Toyota updated the design of the factory chassis mounts when they switched from the Prado 120 to the Prado 150 chassis in 2010. (Although one post I read claimed that later model FJC’s used a hybrid chassis with some upgraded 150-series bits added underneath and not the complete Prado 150 frame.) Here’s what the 2007-2009 rear LCA mounts look like:

And here’s what the 2010-2014 mounts look like (this photo also shows the Total Chaos skid installed, but you can clearly see what’s factory and what’s aftermarket):

As you can see the later models had a more gradually sloped connection to the frame. So just be aware when you buy to get the correct skid for your model year.

Thanks for the link to the Rocktek's. They look like a good choice as far as smaller arrival angle goes and the fact that they have bolts through the frame. But at least on my 2014 it will take some grinding on the bottom of the frame for them sit flush. There is a junction in the frame near that spot and a lot of factory welds sticking up proud of the frame. Did you run into any problems when you installed yours onto your 2007?

I just bolted it in place regardless of the weld. I dont see any problem with it not sitting 100% flush in that spot so long as they are tight.

And those two OEM mounts above look absolutely identical. I do not believe Toyota changed them at all in 2010.
