I've just taken off my EGR and wondering how to test/clean it.
Should I use carb cleaner, rags, white spirts etc..
Its pretty sooty but not bigs chunks of anything.

Does that sound normal - all EGR/VSV pipes all seem to be clean and clear.

    carb cleaner works well.

Apply vacuum, if the pintle sucks up it's good. Check to see if a chunk of carbon is keeping it from closing, but yours sounds like that's not a problem.

    Todd,
Thanks - I did use carb cleaner if the end and that helped a bit in getting some of the soot off. It wasn't that bad but hard to clean due to internal shape. Checked rest of pipes etc. and put back on. All ok (problem turned out to be a loose IAC that once pulled the battery acted as a big vacuum leak - see 80scool list)
