Hi there,

I've read all items on the 16" wheels on the forum, but still have question. Who can help me?

Some years ago i bought some Toyota Landcruiser rims that came from, i was told, Denmark (Europe). I wanted these wheels because of the clips for the hub cabs. I had them blasted and powder coated.
I almost ordered a new set of BFGoodrich Mud-Terrain T/A KM2 Tires 31x10.5x15" and found out today that these rims are indeed 5,5x16" rims. I was running 16" split rims.

My questions:
- do they fit my BJ42 with disk breaks in the front and drums in the back (no problem with the rivets, i now have welded 16" split rims) ?
- What is the best tire size (no rubbing etc). I was thinking 235x85xR16
- I must use inner tires i suppose ?
- When where these rims produced and for which countries ?
- are these rare? i have never seen these.

Thanks for your advise !

These may or may not fit your 42. I think it depends on if the original vehicle had disks or drums up front. Others can probably give a definite answer. I'd put a rim on the front and see if it rubs on the break caliper.

The tire size you mentioned should work with no rubbing.

Yes, you need tubes and tire liners to use splits. The tube cant touch the rim. The liner, also called a flap, goes between the rim and the tube with the sides of the liner tucked up neatly up into the tire.

I run the same split rings on my 60 and they are great but heavy. Here's a thread you should take a peek at for the gear as well as websites for the same.

And a few websites to get you familiar with how to put them together, repair a tire (or tyre depending where you are from) and how to do it safely:

And now you can say that you've seen split rims on a Land Cruiser!

Hi Ralph, very nice, I have one splitrim left, but the more open type, if you want a spare.

My '66 40 has four of those 16" riveted wheels. Same backspacing as the splits (and the 15" for that matter). I have a split for my spare, but I'd like to find one more riveted wheel for a set. Ralph, your rig looks great! are you on stock suspension, or a small lift?

So here it is. Going from 215x80x16" Dunlop Desert Duelers to 235x85x16" on BFG's. How wheels & tires improve the look...

Hi, I'd love to get my hands on the 16" non-split wheels. I see the ones you used are the riveted ones, not the welded ones newly available with @Racer65 . Did you use tubes and tube liners with your BFG's or tubeless tyres worked fine with riveted rims? I have already located a set of 4 non-split 16", but the seller is saying I can't use tubeless tyres with these. Not that I would mind using tubes, but tubeless tyres are preferred.

Hello ClassicLCfan,

First you fit an inner liner (looks like a small kids inner bicycle tyre (see pictures above). This liner goes over the rivets. You need an inner tyre flap and an inner tube. I also needed some kind of adapter to fit around the inner tyre valve. The rim hole is a lot larger than the inner tyre valve itself. As you don't want water to enter the rim, you need the adapter to seal it. If you need pics of the parts I described, send me a mail.

Reviving an old
Thread here but any idea where I could find one of these wheels?
Have you reacted out to City Racer to ask if you can buy just one? Its not an option on the website, but I suspect he would sell one. Roger is a fantastic vendor for our community. @Racer65

Look at my post down this row a bit on a thread called 'Steel wheel Tech'. I outline how simple it is to order four 16" wheels from E-Trailer for 100 bucks each and bore the centers to 4.25 at home with a 12 dollar hole saw. Hub cap clips are easy. I pop the head off the rivet with a chisel. My source is rusty 15" riveted wheels. I think you can buy newq as well. All done they look very close to toyota equipment.
