what year rear driveshafts will fit a 1981 FJ40? I have several from different FJ40's but I'm not sure what year will work in a 1981. Thanks

Check cruiser outfitters site, they have a chart that identifies the flanges for each year. You can always swap flanges from different drive shafts to match your pinion flange. Seriously, there are several variants throughout the years and I have to restudy the flanges each time I do something with a driveshaft.

Specter Off Road shows the same rear driveline in the FJ40 with a four speed from 74 thru 84. Starting in 8/80 the hand brake was gone off the transfer case but it had a split T case instead of the one piece. Different case may have made up for the brake being gone.:meh: I have a 82 driveline to use in my 79 when I upgrade to a split T case and replace the rear axle with one that has the hand brake. Never compared it to the 79 driveline.

Looks like you are correct:
