Hi All
Finished the Forty Series last Thursday . Trial drive was a 1200 Klms each way to pick up my new camper.
Had a few small issues but made it there and back with having to use a spanner .
There is something about driving a forty series words can not describe .

Congrats Pete enjoy the ride. That by the way is not a camper lol

sh*t that was an adventurous shake down run mate :) congratulations that was a very nice restoration job you did on that thing

Great job and great build!! I learned a lot and enjoyed it tremendously!!

Good looking camper too - what's the tongue weight and the dry weight?

Excellent build Pete! Congrats on your first drive!

I'd like to see some pics of your custom overhead console please.

Hi 78fj40
This is the only photo I have of the console
Will take some more and post.
I'm very happy with the design and the performance of the console.
Only thing I would change is brighter gauge lights.
The vac gauge works a treat .
Having the speakers in the console is the way to go.
I have given the GPS tracking and anti theft a good work out.
My IPhone can track listen to cabin chat and disable the forty series at any time.
Cheers Peter

Hey Pete... Did you miss my questions in post #8, above? I'm curious as to how much weight you are towing - tongue weight and dry weight or loaded weight.

Thanks!

fantastic build ... thank you for your patience re questions ... I thought you were always so accommodating to all of us ... congrats, and enjoy ... but, are they ever truly finished (lol) ...

That GPS sounds a treat Pete. What did you fit.

Hi pngunme
Tow ball weight only guessing 150 kg .
I need to find out exact as I'm planning to use air bags when towing.
Unladen 1300kg laden 1900 kg
Towing how did it go?
Not good to start as tire pressures were to low.
After a bit of experimenting with the tire pressures 40 psi in the rear and 30 psi on the steer towing speed was 80 to 95 k easy.
I have a 5 speed box fitted and found 4 th gear to be the best. Driving to the Vacuum gauge I was able to keep the needle from just on the green To half way into the red.
If I shifted into 5th gear the vac needle would shift below the red.
Fuel economy I started off with both tanks full about 190 litres .
I did around 2600 Klms ( the odometer worked on and off just ordered a new one from Ebay ) so I'm only guessing on the real mileage .
Fuel price was about $1.30 per litre and I put $350.00 into the tanks.
The tanks still have fuel in them but headache number 2 is the rear tank sender stopped working so no idea how full or empty this tank is. The front tank is over half full.
I'm away for a week so I can not play with it.
All in all I was very happy with the way the Forty towed the van and I think the fuel economy was ok.
Cheers Peter

Hi Ken
The GPS tracker
Brought it over the net ex Germany I think.
Cost around $150.00 USD
You will need a 12 months Telstra card $200.00
This unit does it all.
I can call the forty up and have a conversation . True
I can ask were are you? How fast are you going? Turn on the cabin Mike and Stop now .
With this command the forty comes to a stop by disabling 3 different life lines.
The unit I'd buried deep inside the console and it has a battery back up .
To remove if you know what your doing 3 to 4 hours so it's fairly bomb proof protection .
If the thief wants to remove without disarming the GPS phones me to say help.
So at $350.00 dollars and $200.00 dollars a year to top up cheep.
Up in the top End watching the V8s this week end. With a bit of luck I will have the forty here next year.
Cheers Peter and Nat

Sounds great Pete might have to look into it. Can you post a link for them. When you coming up to cooktown so I can have a look at your work.

Hi Ken
I'm going to add up a build cost so I should be able to dig up the receipt for the GPS.
Bit scary I don't know if I need to know this but my money handlers say they need to know for insurance purposes.
Coming your way . Nat and I just talking about that.
Will be sooner than later.
The air pump is another fancy gizmo I have added. Photo added.
Cheers Peter
