I just got and don't know where to begin?

When installing one of these units is it better to remove the transfer case to get the c clip on ?
I don't have the installing tool, can one be made?

I just brought a low K 5 speed box with matching fairey to give me 20 forward and four reverse kogs looking forward to slipping it in the old girl. Happy days
