How do you know if you have a factory of aftermarket alarm. 1997 80 no key fob (no remote) small red button to left of side mirror controls > I need to remove or disengage alarm but not sure if factory of aftermarket. Does this sound like a factory alarm or what else can i look for to indicate if alarm is oem.

thx

My 97 has a small red light there with a bezel that says CLIFFORD on it and there's a small rocker switch next to it. The PO (second owner) said it wasn't connected. I don't know if this is a dealer install or aftermarket. I also didn't get a fob.

My 80 came from the east coast (port of entry) and it came with a port-installed Audiovox alarm. It has the little red LED near the mirror controls.

I read here somewhere that, there is no such thing as a "factory" alarm. they all arrived without a security system and, depending on which port your vehicle arrived, determined which security system was installed.
My vehicle was delivered to San Pedro, CA, and a "TVSS" or Toyota Vehicle Security System was installed at that point. This system appears to be the most "factory" looking, as it says "Toyota" on it, and is serviced thru Toyota dealers. In the manual, it says, "congratulations on the ADDITION of a Toyota Security system to your vehicle".
Perhaps this system was installed on several different Toyota vehicles.
Go to this thread https://forum.ih8mud.com/80-series-tech/582228-cant-program-replacement-remote-97-lx450.html , and you should find the complete owners manual I scanned in for reference.
Perhaps Cdan, or other Toyota gurus could chime in about the "factory" aspect, just for clarification.

^^^^^ This.

Ok...I have a 1997 CE. Car came with 1 key FOB which was in bad shape... Bought a new FOB today at the dealer. Came to the site to learn how to program the new remote.

Looked under the Driver seat and Nothing...looked behind the Glove box and Nothing...went behind the drivers side kick panel and below is a pick of what I found. Its an alarm box with a part # 00014-S0200 . Search the site with no availability...went to the interweb and got some hits on how to program with the Valet Light Button (see pic below).

Here are the detailed instructions...I got mine programmed with no issues. Hope this will help the community

Here you go. Hope this helps.
--------------------------------------------
PROGRAMMING ADDITIONAL or REPLACEMENT TRANSMITTERS

Each SECURIKEY+ system can be operated by up to four (4) different
SECURIKEY+ transmitters. The system is supplied from the factory with two
(2) transmitters included, and additional transmitters are available through
parts distribution. Any new or replacement transmitters will need to be
programmed to the main control module before they will activate the system.
The SECURIKEY+ main control module uses a six (6) channel radio frequency
receiver; each channel controlling a different function of the SECURIKEY+
system. Each transmitter button can be programmed to only one of the
receiver channels (e.g., the GREEN button cannot be programmed to operate
the headlight feature and remote start option; it can operate only one or
the other feature). The following is a list of each receiver channel, and
the function of each channel.

CHANNEL # FEATURE CONTROLLED BY THIS CHANNEL
1 Lock
2 Unlock
3 Trunk Release (optional kit required; not available on all models)
4 30 second headlight activation (only if required by GREEN button)
5 Remote panic (only if required by GREEN button instead of LOCK
button)
6 Remote start (optional kit required; not available on all models)

To program new or additional transmitters, or when adding options to
existing SECURIKEY+ transmitters, follow the step by step programming
instructions found below. When programming, it is important to complete each
step of the procedure within 15 seconds, or the system will terminate the
programming mode. If this happens, simply start again.

Be sure that the SECURIKEY+ system is disarmed, and the lighted valet switch
is in the off (out) position before you begin.

transmitters that need the LOCK button programmed (up to four transmitters).
After the LOCK button on all transmitters have been programmed, press and
release the L.E.D. valet switch 2 times to advance to the next receiver
channel.

PROGRAMMING THE SELECTABLE FEATURES
The SECURIKEY+ system offers a number of selectable features that can be

I have the same alarm on my 97 CE and it was unplugged when I received it with only one remote. I found the actual programming instruction manual that may help. See link below.

http://jjguy.com/securikey/securikeycommonmanual.pdf

Followed these and I had it going in 5 min.

where did you get the key for the remote. is it something that could be purchased separately? i want to have the key in the remote. i can dremel it to fit. but i would rather buy one. thanks
i would like to possibly get a remote start module to work with that alarm.

I removed the "brain" from mine but then ended up with manual door locks. I'm living with it at the moment till I make time to reconnect the door power wire that was cut to go through the brain. Manual locks are much better than a crappy key fob and annoying alarm sounds when reconnecting the battery.

Tear the factory alarm out and have a Viper put in (industry Leader/Standard).
Bought a 5104 on Ebay for $100 and had installed for $90.
Got alarm, remote door lock/unlock and car starter. Works further away then I could yell.
The factory system is 90s tech, or about as useful as the tape deck.
If you don't have the money, then save your extra $ from gassing up at $2 instead of $4 and apply that.

I think intent was to program 2 Separate Cars to Single Remote. I never had the bottom button work either.
