If I go with 1 1/2" extended shackles is it enough to worry about shimming at the springs?

i have 1.5" shakles on my fj40 with 33 by12.5 tires manual steering and no shims and its a bit scary. it would probaly be ok with smaller tires

I got 2" shackles, 35" tires and still manual steering. Who needs the gym?
