I'm wondering how I might think about repairing this. It is a 1986 4Runner, ds a-pillar door check bracket.

I thought it was going to be as simple as drill out the spot welds and replace. There appears to be some sort of sub structure it is welded to behind the sheet metal. 2nd gen 4runners are not like this.

Any suggestions would be great. I'm not super excited to cut an access hole.
 
You might have better access from the kickpanel alongside the footwell?

There are two access points in the kick panel and neither is very big. I guess I'll go the the salvage yard and drill out the spot welds on a truck and see if I can pull it out from those holes. If that works I'll be good. I hate drilling out spot welds and there are 9 or so on this.
 
why not just weld another tab on there? That should run hot enough to get through the multiple layers of steel.

That is also an option. I'll talk to the guy doing the body work and see what he things. It would seem to me that you could rosette weld some tabs in to the existing metal.
