Desdemona (Desi) is here for a crate motor LSX swap and a full rebuild from the ground up. Notice the word "Restoration" is not used but rather rebuild.

Desi arrived with some assistance

Pulled her in for an overall inspection, a well used 62 with a Jasper motor and worn out trans.

More to come........

Jealous! I hope to have that kind of money to throw at my cruiser some day.

Which LS? 454R or bust

Plan was for the 5.3L EROD but it is no longer available. I've not spent a lot of time trying to find out why but have not found one sitting in stock anywhere either. The 6.2L Erod is still available and may well go that route. The 5.3L route would be a la carte.

I guess it is all in your view point. The owner wanted an SUV that could haul his family (4) and gear camping and fishing etc, 4WD, and handle DD duties. He just did not want the same Tahoe etc that everyone else has and chose to build a new FJ62 instead. If you can afford new truck, you can afford to build your own. :)

Want to scare yourself, go look at the new 4500 level tow rigs.

I have an e-rod 5.3 in my rig and I clicked over 50k miles....in 10 months...ha! So my warranty is gone. If I was paying for it full out of my pocket I def would have just gotten a used motor.

Seems like you should be able to hunt down a used low milage 5.3 (like....75k miles?) and be way ahead of the money game.

Maybe Beno, I'm watching what Stan does with this one. He is quite close to me.

It was tongue-in-cheek recommendation actually.

I think Stan's V8 conversions are awesome and if I hadn't gone with a complete rebuild of my 2F I probably would have gone with a new GM crate motor.

Do it once, do it right and never look back.

I was hoping the 5.3 Erod thing was a rumor. I am finally listing my house for sale this week. A good part of the proceeds were going to go to Chevrolet. Hmmm...now what?

The 6.2L EROD is still available and the 5.3L is still available as a crate motor, just not in the EROD package

Do it once, do it right and never look back.

Exactly on point

I personally agree with you and have a pull out 5.3L waiting in the wings for my wife's truck. The owner of this particular truck wants a crate motor.

The difference in price between a pull out and crate motor is $6.5-8K depending on specific equipment etc. If you gamble and go with the pull out and you have an issue some time down the line a brand new crate motor now bolts right in, just swap out the harness as well.

So does that make it a more expensive proposition to do a crate motor + ? How about the option that includes the transmission, I think they call it the "connect and cruise" or something? I have an email in to Chevy about this. I'll update if I hear anything.

The C&C version of the 5.3 is also NLA

That's what I have, the Connect & Cruise. Mine was the 5.3 + 4L65E w/ all the accessories ready to go at the shop for every bit of 15k

No doubt! You could drop in a used motor and trans and then within 2 years blow either and swap in another used one and still be ahead. I def think it's the ticket.

And if it blows in the wilds of Wyoming with wife and kids? And I have to get it back to TN. How much is that worth. No way am I going to put more than 10k per year on it. I rarely leave the house!
