At the official stopping point now. I'm going to need shims. My inch pound torque wrench only goes down to 25 so I broke out the fish scale. Only took 5lbs to move flange so shims it is. I wonder what the odds are of my local Toyota dealer having the shims? Hopefully they are still available.
I did make a sweet tool for holding the flange in order to tighten the nut. According to the manual it would be SST 09330-00021. Mine was free from the scrap pile.

Since I'm stopped right now with the TC I had some time to do a few things that I've been putting off. Added USB charger in the 12v slot. I cut the 12v harness plug in half with a razor blade to make it work with the USB plug.

I also cleaned up my ham and CB wiring. It was bothering me that a few wires were coming up from the side. Now all are under carpet and coming through the grommet.

Visited the pick n pull today. Nothing exciting there. Mainly went to find some additional anchor points for the rear cargo area and a breather valve to extend the missing one from the TC. Was charged a whopping $3.98 for these.

I wanted something to install in the second row seat bolt locations for when I take the seats out and also on the wheel wells.

Installed the cargo hooks after wire wheeling them clean and painting them. Took the crappy "C" shape hooks out and swapped in some random ones I had laying around.

Shims are here. Wonder which one will be the lucky winner? Got them all just in case. Now I have to wait for the Amazon man to deliver my inch pound torque wrench tomorrow. Got a beam type that measures 0-60.

Amazon man (nice USPS lady) just showed up with my tool to hopefully finish this.

And the winner is the one marked "0"

It took me two tries to find the right shim. If I would have went by the manual I would have got it in one try.

All back together and filled with oil. Lost the HF pump when filling oil. Sometimes you win with HF sometimes you don't.

Successful install I must say. No leaks as of now. RPMs are down the 8% like advertised. 1st gear is now almost usable but probably still will be starting in 2nd. I'll try testing out low range tomorrow to see what that feels like.

How is the whine compared to before?
Much better. The case needed to be rebuilt bad. Idler shaft was toast along wih a few bearings. Mark's instructions say their gears will be louder than stock but to me they are quieter due to the rebuild. Also states they use some fancy synthetic gear oil in Australia to quiet them down but from what I found its not available here. I used cheap dino oil for now. Plan on switching to synthetic once I break them in a bit. I didn't want to spend the extra cash on oil I was going to change in a few hundred miles.
We will probably take it on a 150 mile round trip tomorrow to my grandparent house for Easter. Should be a good test.

Another thing I did today was seal up my air filter housing so only snorkel air will be used. It has been debated whether or not the 80 series snorkel could feed enough air for the 6BT. We will see. Took all of two minutes to move the block off plate over the engine bay opening.

Dustin changed things up and the new housing doesn't have that ability.
My housing was a custom one in order to keep the snorkel functional. What does Dustin use. Been seeing a few stock Dodge setups lately.

The setup Dustin has now is a cast aluminum housing designed to fit in the stock location but use a 94-02 dodge filter.

I plan to make an adapter plate to mate to the airbox and then build a custom 4" stainless snorkle to handle the airflow. Pretty common approach in Australia once folks start winding up the 1HD-FT, FTE, 1HZ-T, TD42T etc.

I wish I knew about these transfer case gears before I regeared my axles. Great job Cimarron:clap:

I do like the Australian snorkel setups. They look very utilitarian.

Cheaper to re-gear your axle. Trouble is getting 3.73s.
Problem with regearing axles is you loose some of your low range. I didn't want to give that up.
