I've got a 4/74 FJ40 Cali-spec with the stock carb that's never been apart (64K miles on the truck) and it has recently begun to Diesel or 'Run On' as the weather has warmed up. Desmog'd.

From reading the FSM, it seems that this valve 'Slow Valve' in FSM is an early type of Idle Control, like the later Idle Control Solenoids.

Q's:

  • Is this 'valve' repairable?
  • What have others with early 40s done when encountering dieseling (other than clutch pop)?

Nobody, eh ?

The plunger in the solenoid may have been shortened/cut to mimick the electrified/activated state. Remove solenoid and inspect. See if there's power to solenoid. Ground may be flakey.
