Taking a break from the 40. Decided I had some junk laying around and I need to clear it up and do something useful with it. I am going to put shelves in where the JoBox is sitting.

After a brief hiatus playing with my new to me 96 FZJ80 I got back into working on the FJ40. ARB repaired my ARB compressor and it is back in, need a new positive battery connector and I can test it. I finished welding in the tabs for mounting the seats, Walmart budget console and seat belts.

Not to bad for a guy with no welding training other than a youtube video and a Lincoln 140c

Progress.. Linkage made for transfer case. Went from vacuum cone to manual cone. Also pulled the interior to reinstall the tunnel cover. Then used my teenage daughter to steer while I pushed to flip it around in the driveway to get better access to the rear end for work on it....and to take poser shots with the 80.

What Vae said. In the end I cleaned that up and did a double row on top of the initial weld. In my mind at the time it seemed that more is better, that is probably not the case. . Looking forward to moving off base and being able to have a shop with 220 and upgrade from mu Lincoln 140c.

You got a nice FJ40. Mine is the same month and year but mine ain't that good looking....yet :D

Thanks for the kinds words..it has taken me a little bit to get where I am at..and now I am at a cross roads for version 2.0 of this build. I have collected some FJ60 axles and a 283 with a turbo 350.....sigh.

Not entirely happy with how it came out, live and learn. It is good enough for a wheeler though.

So, going backwards to save time and money later so to speak. Managed to get my self a 85 FJ60 axle and shackle reversal kit locally. Plan on outboarding the shackle reversal kit and putting my locked third into the FJ60 axle once I rebuild it. Also welded the tub doors together to make a tailgate, I am using the factory hinges as well.

I am looking for a place that sells the hard brake lines that run along the axle housing. I could bend and flare some more up, but I have gotten to lazy to do it all over again. :hillbilly:

Managed to put in some work on the FJ60 axle today. Used a piece of tubing I had laying around and made it into a truss. Waiting on some more items to show up in the mail this week, hopefully have it all together by the end of next weekend.

Brown stopped by today, his truck shat out a brown box from Trail Gear,
the the box barfed up parts for the FJ60 axle build... more to come this weekend.

Bot some work in. Lower ball gussets are in. Modified Trail Gear diff armor for a smaller Hilux axle to work, and made a lid for it to keep the mud and dirt out. Cut off the sway bar mounts and cleaned painted it up with Rustoleum paint I had around. I will be applying a couple coats of a Rustoleum bedliner the assembly will begin.

I have an oil leak in my ARB compressor. Can you guide me to who you dealt with at ARB so I can get mine repaired?

Thank You.

IIRC I called ARB warranty people, cant recall exactly who but after about 5 min on the phone 3 days later I had a box to mail them my compressor. A week or two later I had it back.

on the FJ40 front:

Been a little busy as of late. Will be retiring from the Army in a couple months so it was time to put down some roots. Bought a house up here in Alaska, plenty of time moving and still settling in. Hope to get the garage setup and get back to work on the FJ40 soon.
