Damn Chris, you are really putting some work into that traction bar. I like the square tube insert, I did not know something like that existed.

yea, I only want to do this ones! I've read up and going to cheap is a bad thing and its to cold to do anything in the garage. I'm picking up the steal mon.

one step closer!
thanks

Started making an anti wrap/ track bar got some questions before I continue
1. is it to high? its 8" center to center.
2. think it will work?

I'm all over the place on this thing!
tried to get the cross member for the track bar figured out was going to run it on the bottom and use it for the skid plate; but its going to put the link to high so I've got to run it on top but I do not want to cut the original tube out! I think I can run it just behind the original tube.

I got the Chevy alternator bracket mocked up and the final bracket for the power steering pump in had to move it forward half an inch. tried th double flare the original scout PS line did not work to well. Only got a single flare on it. I'm going to get a custom line made or "S" bend a new original. post up some pics when the wife gets back w/camera

waiting to get the steal for the cross member.

took a couple days off of work to work on the cruiser got a bunch of stuff started and some closer to finished.
this is what I started just need to grind/sand down the welds
DSCF9979.jpg

I could not find a good tailgate or doors in my price range so I took 4 doors cut the top off 2 and the bottoms off the others and welded them together then welded the two doors together to make a tailgate now got to decide on the latch.

I pulled my drivers seat to finish the tool box and floor.

Started putting my front end back together started cutting the inner fenders for the PS box and shock towers

I'm going to order brake line and fittings tomorrow from Fedhill I'm changing over to 10mm and Chevy rear disk so got to practice up on inverted 45's

I also plumed my air compressor. this is before I ran the line from the new compressor to the tank.

did some more on the anti wrap bar let me know if you think it will work I'm wondering about the angle of the shackle mount on the cross member may put to much stress on the cross member.
DSCF0044.jpg

the top bar is parallel wit the frame and should be protected by the skid plate.
DSCF0042.jpg

the johnny joint is on the same plain as the drive shaft u joint to eliminate binding

here is the new cross member

still need to finish all the tabs, gussets and brackets but thats going to be the basic shape. I made it 48" wide because that was as wide as the steel I had for it. I may cut it down after I get it wheeling and hang it up on some rocks. and I'm going to put some D ring hangers on it after I get them made.

Chris

You must have bought my twin pig. I bought a 1969FJ40 that looked just like yours starting out. After dumping about $16,000 on it, it looks better. ugh If I had only known how much it was going to cost me......
I installed a MetalTech full roll cage, bought all new upholstered seats including benches in back. Just finishing the Centech wiring harness install. Hope to have it on the road later this summer.

unfortunatly yours is going to look a lot beter than mine. I tend to drive it like I stole it. so I'm not puting to much time in making it pritty.

I'm embarresed to say I finally set down and read your thread. It's impressive, you've really put a lot of thought into it. Can't wait to see it on the trails.

here is some pics of my brake lines

this is the rear to discs i'm using 2wheel chevy s-10 front lines for my flex lines
DSCF1742-1.jpg

here is my frount drivers i did not get backing plates with my front disc brakes so I'm running my soft lines directly to my calipers.
DSCF1741-1.jpg

I'm not sure if this will work or just get crushed. I may weld a plate between the top and bottom spring plate to protect the line.
DSCF1739.jpg

enjoy
chris

I just noticed I did not weld up my drain plug when I had the rear axle out.:bang:

welded drain plugs? When did ya'all start with that? I run low profile plugs, magnets are a must. I know they take a beating but I wouldn't do it. Run your brake lines behind the axle under the spring and they are fine.

I've wheeled with guys that do good maint. and have lost plugs or the plug loosens and lost all the diff loob. I do very little maint. on all my junk I'd rather weld them then loose them on the trail. just another thing to worry about.
