I decided to go up from 33's to 35's and did alot of research via the search function. It was very helpful and I came to the conclusion that it is a bit of a challenge to finding wheels that properly fit a 80 without the use of spacers. I decided on some Eagle alloys in the 17x9 size. They have the factory 4.5 inch backspacing and are wide enough to fill out the fenderwells. The 315/70r17 BFG's are designed to fit from a 8.5 to 10" wheel so the 9 inch width worked. I found the 108 mm bore of this wheel was designed to choke down twice all the way down to a 95mm for the center cap. This design works on all the hubless Toyota's, etc. but doesnt allow room for the LC front hub to protrude (like most wheels I ran across). I sent the wheel to a specialist wheel shop that has a computerized CNC lathe, and after determining the wheel was appropriate to bore and remain structually sound, they bored the wheel to my LC. I located some center caps that would mount from the rear and fit tight. I had the tires road forced and they run suprisingly smooth with zero vibration at freeway speeds :steer:(thankfully!). Later, I found a boulder to flex the suspension to check a concern I had of the tops of the rear tires contacting the body. The rear tire stuffed well and comes within an inch of the body but no contact. Im happy with the fitment results.

Being I tow a medium size trailer (just under 3,000 lbs) occasionally and when I go to northern AZ, much of it is uphill. I like the towability the truck has had and knew the tire size change would be a resulting issue. (Now I can rationalize buying gears :grinpimp:) I could leave my OD off but prefer to have more usuable (down)shift range and keep the RPMs in the "sweet spot" power band. The stock tire size with the factory 4.10's gave me about 2600 rpm at 65 mph. The 35's at 65mph run about 2275. With the 4.88's, the rpms will go up to around 2750. I dont do any long distance driving with my LC and will work well with my daily and trail driving.

With the money from the sale of my 33's and aftermarket 16x8's, I am buying Precision 4.88 ring and pinions and installing in the next two weeks with the overhaul kits. The installer is familiar with the E locker diffs and has much experience. The gearing with the supercharger are reportedly a great combo (again search function) to retain all around good performance and towing ability. Ill post some seat-of-the-pants thoughts when they're completed.

Those are way too pretty to take offroad, nice setup

Ill beat on them anyway. A wheel scar is a badge of courage ~

I love 17" wheels for 35's.

I also love 20" wheels for 37+'s.

I guess I'm old school, 15's maybe 16' 33' to 36, oh well time to evolve.
