Have the 300D parts car and ready to go, but am having a hard time with a few things. Have read hundred of posts but could use some more info.

Have seen the adapters sold by 3 different companies, that's not really my issue. Question is, what is a good transmission and transfer case combo? Have looked at the w56, and nv3500. What have you all used? Any issues with the offset rear end? Did you cut the floorboard for the new shifter locations? Any guidance on transmission/transfer case mounts and the like?

Thanks!

Not a popular swap, I would really research on the tranny and how it relates with that engine. Is it turbo? I love om617's? As for the offset diff I hear people doing it and (in reverse with non offset axle stock cruiser split case) it doesn't seem to be a problem.
But out a gear ration calculator like grim and start comparing. That about all I got, hopefully this will bait the hook for yah.

Did you make any progress on this? I am also considering this swap to replace my dead 2F but the transmission/tc case combo leaves some questions to be asked. Have you found an adapter to run the stock Toyota 4-speed? It seems like there are only a couple 40's actually running this engine.

I am putting the finishing touches on my own conversion using the stock Toyota H42 transmission and transfercase in my '72 FJ40. I have the 4.11 diff so the HW rpms will be right in the sweet spot for the OM617 with my 33" tires. I used the 4x4labs adapter kit. The kit is a real piece of art and Luke was great to work with.

Scott,
Have you completed the swap yet? I will be doing this same swap shortly and have the H42 and 33's and stock 411 rear. Any advice/details would be great.

Swap took longer than planned but completed late december 2012. I have no complaints on the engine/tranny/transmission combo. Biggest hurdle was deciding what front motor mounts to use and figuring out a remote oil filter set up. Let me know if you have any specific questions. Would love to help.

Thanks, I have been busy working, cleaning up motor. Ended up with 2 motors (long story, when rains it pours) so now I have a spare.
