I searched!

I've heard there is a smaller york that was available. I think it was in small VW's. Anyone know the specifics on this? What models and years and what size the compressor was.

I'd like to put a york where the smog pump is on my 82 FJ60. The consensus usually says that a normal york compressor is too big for that area. DS of the engine would work out great since a) I want my A/C. b) I don't need the smog pump. c) I don't have anything left on the DS inner fender after my desmog.

Thanks

Goto junkyard.
Look for VW's from the late 1970's to mid 1980's.
Does it have a square York AC compressor?
Then it is a mini-york.

That's what VW used until switching to a modern rotary compressor.

There are 2 versions of the compact:
206 tag ID = 6.1 cubic inch
209 tag ID = 8.7 cubic inch

Either one will certainly pump enough air. I would guess that the larger ones might come on the Cabriolet convertibles.
They are significantly lower height than the standard Yorks.

Good point, Pin. Maybe bigger mini-yorks would be on the larger vintage VW's, like Audi 4000 and VW Quantum. I've got one off a 4000 out in the shop, i'll check and post number (if I remember:rolleyes: ).

Don't have the source in front of me, but I remember the overall height difference being 1" (mini-york being 1" shorter than the normal full-size york)...my memory could be failing, but that's what I remember...

I know Kumar (inacoma on here) has both sitting in his garage waiting for a vehicle... :D
