Does the FJ have more or less problems than a normal new model?

True that! Reality is, the FJC is a Hino Toyota and will have less problems than other first-years (though mine has its share of little annoying ones). I always told myself that I'd never buy a first year. I think the history of this vehicle/company and opportunity for a really low VIN...

    brake squeal

Mine as well, #2408. It also has the slight lean to the left.

    San Diego Dealer Correspondence

Let this be a heads-up for everyone to not take their business to KMT. I went through this with them in early March, after putting a deposit down and preferencing an FJC in January, then I got the same "oh by the way..." crap. My argument became quite heated with the manager in the middle of...

    Hamura Assembly Plant

That's kind of what I thought. I think they made the Hilux, which was pretty good. From what I've read they have more of a history with heavy duty trucks.

    Hamura Assembly Plant

After two years of planning and waiting I finally picked up my FJC on the 22nd (which is of course awesome), but noticed it was built at the Hamura plant by Hino Motors (Toyota affiliate). For some reason I thought was going to be built at the Tahara plant. Does anyone have an opinion of the...

    FJ Cruiser ----- “There heeeeereeeee”

Hey Mark! Thanks for the pics. I think the factory rails are $575 ($360 invoice). You have to do a brush guard for this thing though. We'll need one due to the plastic pop-off crap it comes with. By the way, thanks the for rollbar; the thing is awsome.

    Limited #?

Has anyone heard that Toyota plans on only making 35,000 of these the first year? It may just be one of those web rumors though. I plan on putting a deposit down soon just in case.

Will your FJC be a Daily Driver or Weekend Toy?

So THAT'S what FJ means...I thought it stood for Foreign Jeep. (kidding)

Will your FJC be a Daily Driver or Weekend Toy?

Wife's DD (that's daily driver not double-D) Even though it's techinically an FJ and is perfect for grocery-gettin/weekend trails, it still looks looks out of place on a major outing like the Rubicon.

    V8 conversion - specific application Q's

I will say, and I think we can all agree, there isn't one right way to do this. In fact, there's probably more than 10 right ways to do this conversion. I found sucess going with the AA kit, keeping the stock 4 speed and following the AA instructions. Again, most important this is to take...

    V8 conversion - specific application Q's

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the 3.5" distance comes into play when you're keeping the 40 tranny and the new engine/tranny placement is about 3.5" forward. I had to bend the stick shift around the heater. The AA catalog is a good source. I used all the AA mounts, crossmember...

    GM Tilt Column

I'm working on a Scout PS conversion right now and got a tilt column off a '74 Nova. That, coupled with a shaft off a '72 full size chevy looks like everything will line up (so far). I don't think you can go wrong with a mid-70's chevy car column, given they are simple, have the round metal...

    40 Springs

Hello, anyone have advice on where to get relatively inexpensive leaf springs (2.5" or 4") for a 40 that work good? I have some 2.5" lift Ranchos (more like 4" though) that are horribly stiff and need to switch them out on a budget. I've been steadily swichting out each Rancho leaf with mini...

Thanks guys! You weren't kidding about metal tech. I think I'll give them a try.

    front roll bar

Anyone know where I can find a pre-made section for a 40 front roll bar that I can weld to the back one? I haven't found anything good, and I guess I can find someone with a tubing bender to make it myself. Thanks.

    brake booster gone bad

Thanks guys. That's some pretty good info. Cruisers have way too many overpriced parts, but I would still rather spend my money on one of those than a Cheep.

    brake booster gone bad

I guess it's time for a new brake booster in the 40. It sounds like I have a vaccum leak at the pedal and my brakes barely work -- a little scary. Does anyone have any tips on replacement or rebuilding? They just seem so darn expensive for even used ones. Thanks.

    an age-old PS question

I know it's probably been like two days since someone asked this question, but which PS conversion route would work best (or would you recommend) for: - a 40 with a 350, - the least cost in parts, - the least amount of mods/fabs, - ...and still provides good handling and the ability to...

    brake booster going bad

I'm pretty sure the brake booster on my '76 40 is going bad, since I can hear a vacuum leak around where the pedal comes out of the fire wall, and my brakes barely work. Would anyone know if these can be rebuilt, or if not, where I might find a new one? This doesn't seem to be a typical part...
