Yes, and i could add even more dodgy pics to this thread. It seems there is a few pieces of car tyre? on the steering column to help with…..your guess is as good as mine :)
Yup
Where is your sense of adventure ;) hahahahaha :steer::steer::steer:
Know any body as would be very willing...
Took a good few mins to locate the VIN number near the battery as it was painted over nice and thick :) then another 10 mins of work using paint remover and then a tooth brush and soap, the birth certificate came through, and as suspected LHD.
Now to decipher the rest of it
Just had a look under the dash…….
……. Yup, it has a series of rods connecting it to the other side, all look welded in a typical dodgy fashion with an arc welder. Not sure if the pics below will show it well, but one taken from under the dash on both sides...
That could very well make sense!! Didn't even think of that. Tbh, I was always wondering what that was in there for??? It never made much sense to me and the place I got it from didnt have a clue. They hardly spoke English and she was cheap :)
Here is a pic from inside that I took a while ago...
I will update in about 12 hours, tomorrow morning if not at work. She arrived late so didn't manage to get the best and most thorough check out. Will also get some better pics too...
I have just had my brand spanking "new" FJ40 arrive. Started the take down process, and have noticed what to me looks rather strange. If i am not mistake, i believe this car was a LHD initially, but has been converted to a RHD.
I have a few pictures below of inside the car, and also under the...
Does anyone know where i can find a Toyota Engine to Transmission compatibility chart.
Just bought a FJ40 without the engine, and the new one has to be Diesel. The only engines i have any access to are the 2L, 3L, 5L and 2H (due to availability and price), and just wanting some information on...
Oh man, i wish you had started this a year ago and then i would have the whole finished article to read….your going to keep me on my toes now for the next few months :( hahahaha
It a brilliant idea. I normally make (well i help my old man) trailers from scratch using a pro box axle only and...
turns out the water jackets or something? 1 of them had rusted through. Previous owner not using a coolant and using just plain water...
luckily not toooo major, but it does mean i need to check and be careful that the radiator and other places are ok for rust
Just wanting to see if i could get a few opinions.
I noticed the car was loosing water about a week ago (i do check in pretty much once a week, and always before a long trip). Anyway, had the car over a year and this was the first time i have had the problem.
I saw a hose was leaking a...
Thank you for the reply.
This is what i have as a frame dimension for the 45 series.
As you can see, the part between the wheels is the only part that can be cut to shorten the chassis, but this section is not parallel. Therefore you cant just cut it and re-weld / rejoin it together...
Will start with a little background. I live in Kenya and been looking for a SWB 40 series land cruiser as a project car to learn some mechanical skills, have some fun and ultimately end up with a cool car to drive around.
NOTE: i am not looking at getting this car back to a fully restored...
I had the same question, and everybody told me to NOT cut. Having a look at the chassis, looks like it would be very difficult to cut due to the lack of a parrallel section.
Looking at all the posts, I think your definitely right. I think I will put this on hold for a while and really search for a 40 chassis. It looks a big job and if not done correctly, a complete waste of a very good chassis which would piss me off and by the looks of things, a few other people as...
I have actually found 2 chassis's but both LWB and really want the short one tho. I live in Kenya so certification process is non-existent. As I thought, it looks a little more complex than I thought without the parallel section. Where does one find diagrams like the one above? Would be...
I have just bought a LWB 40 Series (i believe it is a 47 troopie) chassis and body (nothing else, just the chassis and body). I really wanted the SWB and looked for a few weeks but found nothing but the LWB and so have decided to try and shorten it.
Please if you can, send me your thoughts...
