Heat riser bolts stripped, is this a bad idea?

@cjgoode Can you confirm if your bolts through the intake manifold withheld the test of time?

    1F (F 155) Intake Manifold / Exhaust Manifold Installation

The gasket between the intake and exhaust wouldn't cause the ears to move forward or backwards; only up and down. No problems up and down for me. The bolts were loose between the manifolds allowing both of them to be bolted against the head. I'll try to attach a picture of what I mean tomorrow.

    1F (F 155) Intake Manifold / Exhaust Manifold Installation

I actually ended up needing the half-washers on the intake manifold ears to make both manifold ears the same thickness. I can't imagine the intake manifold was machined down 1/16" but that is the only thing I can think of.

    1F (F 155) Intake Manifold / Exhaust Manifold Installation

Mine isn't stuck either way. It is loose/free and goes to both extremes (See pics) Seems like it would be a pain to plug the holes. I guess I could just tie it in it's open position but the exhaust should be holding it there anyways, right?

    1F (F 155) Intake Manifold / Exhaust Manifold Installation

Thanks Pighead. Good idea. Any thoughts on the flapper? 1F should be fine with or without it, right? I think I'll leave it in if it's not going to hurt anything..

    1F (F 155) Intake Manifold / Exhaust Manifold Installation

F 155 engine in my 40 (Mar. 1970). Rebuilt the carb (Small window SD-40) and decided to replace exhaust/intake manifold/valve cover gasket while I was at it. Cruiser had been sitting for ~25 years prior to my ownership. I've added ~1500 miles since. Separated manifolds to check for cracks in...

Correct Fuel Pump for 03/1970 F155?

Seems to be. Lesson learned, I guess. Hopefully this thread serves a good caution to someone else in the future. Thanks all.

Correct Fuel Pump for 03/1970 F155?

Thank you for the reply. I do have the long OEM bolts. If you refer to the last pictures I posted, you'll notice that the small spring on my current pump shoots straight out; whereas the one in your pictures angles down to connect to the pump arm. Sucking in the pump with the bolts will (I...

Correct Fuel Pump for 03/1970 F155?

Your spring has a steeper angle for sure. If mine had the steep angle, it would fit in my block. A spacer wouldn't allow the arm to ride on the cam, right?

Correct Fuel Pump for 03/1970 F155?

Little bit of a headscratcher here. Fuel pump will not fit - the spring hits the block before the bolt holes line up. Tried rotating engine and could not get it to fit. Before sending the knock-off fuel pump back, I wanted to make sure there is nothing else that I could be missing. Anyone happen...

Correct Fuel Pump for 03/1970 F155?

Okay, that helps. Wish I would have thought about rotating the cam while I was installing. I know mine is a chinese knock-off. Is it worth going for a NOS fuel pump? I figured by now they should be pretty close to the same quality. Good to know I have the right pump, though. Can't wait to get...

Correct Fuel Pump for 03/1970 F155?

1970 fj40 with the early F155 engine. Replacing the fuel pump because engine was cutting out at ~55 mph. In-line pressure gauge showed ~5 psi at idle and would drop down to almost 0 in 3rd gear at 55mph. New fuel pump looks identical to the old but doesn't go into the block far enough to bolt...

Where to find a '68 FJ40 column shift linkage

Thank you for the quick reply. Got everything out. Here is a picture for anyone in the future that may need a reference. I'll poke around on the computer when I get home to see if I can find both of these pieces from a vendor as both threads are worn down.

Where to find a '68 FJ40 column shift linkage

Bringing this thread back from the dead.. I was at a stop sign yesterday and, thinking I was in neutral, pulled the shifter towards me. The whole thing came out. It is still drivable if I move the shifter very slow in neutral. Does anyone have more info on what piece goes at the top there...

I assume the fuel tank is out of the mini truck as well. There is an access panel to the fill neck in the bed. Straight and rust free frame. Excuse the fisheye effect on the photo. My dad's 40 seemed to be the right vehicle to pull the 45 out of its hiding spot in the old chicken coupe.
