My trusty 100 is to be traded in on a new ride in the next few weeks. I'd rather it go to an enthusiast if anyone on this forum is interested .
Does $3.5K sound reasonable. Anyone??
Gas: Regular gas
Oil: synthetic oil [Mobil 1 & others over time] Mobil 1 filters
Oil changes: Not often enough, and surely longer than the book
Scheduled maintenance: In general yes, but not religiously. There have been times when I've been a sinner.
There is a reason why Toyota's trucks are...
The pic is just after turning over 300K back in late April. We're now up to 307K+. Owned since new.
In the 12 months prior to the 300K mark the only unscheduled maintenance was a rear sway bar bush and tightening up the anti-rattle clamps around the cat converters. Best vehicle ever!
NOTE...
ABS light will come on immediately the RDL control is turned to the ON position.
I've just finished wrestling my RDL from being stuck constantly locked, so here are a couple of things that might help:
- You say the actuator is dead. There is a dedicated 20Amp RDL fuse in the driver's side kick...
Assuming one of your 99s had a rear locker, I desperately need the wire harness from the locker actuator to the main harness connector rear left side on the frame member. Mine was melted when the muffler sprung a small leak during a 14 hour run and fried it. I'm your buyer if you have one.

Yes, the red diff light is the rear locker. My OP should have been clearer about that.
And yes, its pretty weird that the rear locker is engaged. But it is, or at least the warning light is on for the rear locker and ABS.
Its easy enough to knee push the CDL engage button, but the rear locker...
Coming back on a 7 hour run from South Carolina to Northern VA, towing a fairly light trailer. All cruising at highway speeds. 1999 Hundy
Close to home, the YELLOW CDL warning light and the RED CDL warning light came up, along with the ABS light. OK, I'm 6' 4" and this would not be the first...
Great writeup man! My 1999 had an unreliable rear pass window switch. Was convinced it was a switch problem but followed your diagnostic path and found the same gr/ye wire broken in the door to body harness. Spliced in a new line, and its now perfect. Much appreciated!
The 100 series is well documented, has terrific community support resources here, and is straightforward to work on. No rocket science, simple electrics [very simple compared to me 2001 Benz ML430!], and very solid build. There's nothing you are going to do that has not been done many times by...
I'm 100% sure the 5 speed is better, but I've towed my close to 6000# race rig thousands of miles from Watkins Glen north to Daytona south with my '99 and its humble 4 speed. Its been fine.
This is simple. A pressure test uses a simple air pump and gauge. Think bike pump that is adapted into the coolant reservoir neck.
- If the pressure holds overnight, you have no coolant leak in the system. If its still loosing coolant then the reservoir cap is suspect.
If the dealer ran a...
Wait.....
Step 1 - The rest needs to be all the way down
Step 2 - Raise the rest. The point where you stop is the point where it locks
Step 3 - Raise it to the top limit then it will drop to the lowest position, repeat Step 2.
If this is what you are doing and its not working, then the stop...
Perhaps. Ground should be brown, but confirm this with a multi-tester, ohms to ground.
Also perhaps the lack of function or LED suggests a power problem. You had said previously that each switch has its own fuse. If that's right then check the fuse for that switch. Even if the fuse is blown...
BINGO!
"In my 03 LX factory electrical manual, there's a yellow w/ black striped wire going out of the master power switch. This wire goes to junction J2 (left lower kick panel) and then splits. One part goes to the left rear window switch, the other splits again and goes to the right front...
