My Dad and I took a trip up to Colville, Washington last weekend to see one of my Dad's old friends and to pick up a 1970 Scout... Colville is about 8 hours from my place (go to Spokane and head north for an hour), but the LX was the perfect road tripper as expected. Unfortunately, we had to...
I probably will at some point, just to upgrade the brakes. Right now this is a cheap and easy way to get it on the trails. The effects of IFS hubs are the same as running spacers, so I didn't see the need to spend extra money right now.
This weekend I pulled a rear tire off to see what spacer was on there and decide on which spacers to buy. I couldn't help myself from making a sneak peek...
(Yes, I know I put a tire mounted up for the passenger side on the driver side... I was being lazy!)
I will be removing the 1.5"...
Just some notes for me so I don't forget. My Dad came over this weekend to help celebrate my Son's birthday and we were able to get a measuring tape on this thing.
Wheelbase is 95"
Current front outside tire to outside tire is 72" (37x12.50r15 on 15x10 wheels, no spacers)
Current rear outside...
Oh wow! I had no idea they made a 39x10... That's crazy.
Yeah, I know that I will be pushing it with the weight rating. I don't think you could get away with this tire on a mini truck or a 40... I am not planning on running these on paved road at all. They will see 25 mph gravel between...
The next step is 4.7 gears for the transfer case. I'm not sure if I'm just going to rebuild one of my top-shift cases with new gears or order a complete t-case (on sale right now from Trail Gear) and sell my cases... I know it would be a bit cheaper to do it myself, but I'm kinda lazy.
I knew that I would be pushing it a bit because of the wheel width, but I thought it could work. Taking the chance, I just couldn't wait... I had to get them mounted up. I think this is going to work awesome!
I know this isn't a fair comparison, but this is the tire next to the Kanati...
I started talking to a buddy of mine and he threw out a crazy suggestion: "You know, I bet that Sami is light enough you could get away with running SxS tires."
Well that got the wheels turning... Did you know that Maxxis makes a competition sticky SxS tire in 37x10.00r17?!? Neither did I...
