Hey Joe - I'm very interested! Do you have any photos you can share of your rig? I sold my FJ60 in the fall and have been hunting for an FJ80. You can email me pics if that's easier: tmartinhiggins (at) gmail (dot) com
Thanks!
Martin
And if anyone knows of a good FJ80 with leather interior (that is not white body color) for under $7,500 - let me know. I'm on the hunt. I'm not really an off-roader, so looking for a fairly stock model in the NYC Metro area.
Thanks all - this Cruiser has now been sold. It's going to be driven out to LA by its new owner. Bittersweet to see it go, but frankly I'm a little envious of it's new life!
Hello Folks - I've finally decided to make the leap from my beloved FJ60 to an FJ80. I wish I could have them both, but my better half has me on a strict 3 vehicle limit.
I go back and forth between the Catskills in Sullivan County, NY and Brooklyn, NY. So I can easily make my cruiser...
I know you're looking for a 62, but I just decided to list my '87 60. It's in great shape but is not modified and certainly no trailer queen. It's been a daily driver for me and is totally reliable. AC works fine, but it is a 4 speed manual with crank windows and manual locks.
I'm in the...
That's a good looking rig, Red Toy. Mine looks like the hillbilly cousin to yours. How do you like those BFG tires? I have stock size now but want to go bigger - wondering if you had to make any mods for those bad boys to fit?
I have gotten close to 85 mph in my '87 FJ60 many times on my drive to/from Manhattan from the Catskills. But I can honestly say that beads of sweat form all across my forehead when I push him that hard and I can't imagine taking one hand off the wheel to snap a pic of the speedo! LOL. Maybe if...
Hey John,
I have an all original '87 60 series I have been toying with selling. I spent the better part of a year getting her running right and now she purrs like a kitten. Body is solid, interior is in pretty good condition, too. Aside from a brush gaurd on the front and a pair of Hella...
HiI All, I use my rig mainly for job doing events in NYC these days. And last week my power steering started talking back to me. At first it was just happening when the rig was cold and it made a horendous groaning when turning the wheel to the extreme right or left. The sound seems to come from...
Well, down here in Southern New York State, I picked up my gas-fired '87 with very little rust and mostly original condition for $3,000 a little less than two years ago. But the diesels are very rare in the Northeast and when one does come up, they seem to be far more costly. Being a long time...
Thanks for the input, Hank. I tend to agree on the springs, but to look at them -there is still a pretty good bend there and it does not sag at all like so many 60's seem to do at this age. It's whole life was spent parked in an underground garage on the Upper West Side of Manhattan used for...
Thanks, CTRJ. Noted on your tire pressure comment. I should add that the max pressure listed on the Wranglers I'm running is 44psi and I have them all inflated to about 38psi. Think I should go even softer than that?
I will definitely check out those Michelins.
Great info. Thanks everyone. Those Duelers get great reviews on the tires sites, too. But man, I just priced out a set of those and a set of the bilstein shocks and it comes to just shy of a grand. Wowza! I'm going to have to step it up on the savings front to get this done by June!
I appreciate that thought. Currently they are all inflated to the recommended psi on the sidewall. But the tread is pretty well worn and I don't think they will pass my upcoming state inspection in June. But in the meantime, I may try reducing the pressure a few pounds to see if that helps at all.
Hello Gents - I've been searching through lots of old posts and haven't stumbled onto a fitting thread (though I may have missed it)
I'm rolling in my '87 FJ60 pretty much exclusively on road rather than off. And I often drive between Brooklyn, NY and the Southern Catskills. My rig has spent...
I should add that I, too, could get my rig started via a jump. It wasn't the battery (I replaced that with a new one) and it wasn't the alt (it would run forever with lights on, etc once running). Even though all signs point to a bad battery and/or alternator - based on my very similar problem...
I messed around with a very similar problem in my 60 for several months last year. I replaced the battery and check all the wiring, looked for shorts, etc. it would start fine sometimes and then not at others - but all the electrics worked, lights, radio, fan motor, etc. but when it acted up, it...
