Bikes have also gotten taller from longer travel forks raising the height of the head tube (the fork on the Zasker had 63mm/2.5" of travel, the updated 29er cross country bike would have 100-120mm travel), which makes the tops tube APPEAR to be dropped more than it is because you have to slope...
Yep, I build them - all of them are fillet brazed steel. More pics are on instagram though, but most are old. I haven't been cranking them out at the pace that I used to.
Can you make this possible? Sure. But why are you taking it to three different shops to diagnose your problems if you are going to DIY a SAS on a 100? If you aren't going to DIY, who cares if it's MIG'd or TIG'd, just pay the man to get it done.
The easy way would be:
1. Fix differential.

New from Toyota or remanufactured? I got a reman off of Amazon: Detroit Axle Steering Rack for $265 shipped (03-07 rack). Same part sold from detroitaxle.com for $400. I've had it for a year with no problems. Lifetime warranty if you ship your old unit back with prepaid shipping label.
I got set this week for the LX470 in 285/65/18. They measured out to 31.5" with vehicle weight, or 32" without sag. The tires are pretty quiet at highway speed, which is what I was looking for vs. off-road abilities.
Just did 2 wheels yesterday on a vehicle that had service done at a Toyota dealership and the wheel bearings were loose - I'm assuming they went by spec on adjusting nut and called it a day. What I found was the torque specifications from steps 9, 12 & 15 were not enough to get the preload for...
I had to use the homemade puller to get my snap-ring back on too. Make sure you recheck for play in the bearings if you have to resort to this method - I had to go back readjust. In hindsight - probably better to go higher than 43 ft lbs when setting the initial preload (step #9 from post #5).
I ended up having to remove the rack with the steering shaft still attached, then wailed on it pretty hard to get it to come off.
Now another issue - when I turn left going faster than anything above parking lot speeds, traction control comes on. The steering wheel is about 15* off center to...
@PabloCruise
How did you access the u-joint with the pickle fork? Mine is stuck on pretty good, but I can't seem to get good access to put the fork on AND have room to swing a hammer on the end of the fork.
@aaronrules were you driving it with the cap off? Mine just exploded off and is somewhere in my garage. I'm assuming that even if I can find it, it's fubar.
Is the Detroit rack on Amazon the same part as the one on Detroit's website? Why is Amazon $264, sold by Detroit, but their website lists it at $394?
Can anyone with a year or more on the Detroit part comment on durability?
I'm thinking it's a clogged system since power randomly cuts back on. There is no belt or pump noise. However, I do have a leaky a/c system and just had to add freon and the a/c compressor was not running before I added the freon. Power steering issue started the next day. It's possible the...
Don't even know where to begin on troubleshooting this. I'll start with fluid flush. Vacuum hoses after that, but no VGRS lights on.
After driving it today, there was no power steering except for last mile of my drive when it cut back in.
