Ok...I took the switch out, broke it down and cleaned it up really good. It looks like the original switch. After I put it back in the headlights still wouldn't work. As before, the switch works every other light, just not the headlights.
I noticed that the ground wire coming from both...
Hi all,
The headlight switch on my 40 decided to stop working, and it's a switch that toyota only used for one year..i think. The 40 has a build date of 4/72.
Would anyone know where I could get one? It seems that there are plenty of the pre 72 switches as well as post 9/72 switches...
I've done some searching on this forum, but can't seem to find much information concerning mats. I would like to put down the full floor mats in my 40, but don't know what would work better. I've read that the Aussie type mat is really nice, but it's pricey and seems to be unavailable...so, does...
With the exception of the lower FD knob, that's probably exactly how the dash of early 72 should look. I wonder if I could a "non-working" hand throttle knob to put in the blank location on mine...and figure some kinda knob to put where my white one is!
Sure, I'll try to get a picture of that and post it for you in the next day or so. The knob does pull out, but it seems as though it opens the vent when it's pushed in. I'm not sure if that's right or not.
This dash is for an April/72 40, no idea if it's stock correct...
Top...from left to right
Choke (wrong/non-working knob) - blank - hazards - lighter
Bottom...left to right
white knob (no idea what it does) - wipers - rear heater - front heater - fresh/recirc air vent - interior light...
I've had it for a little over a week or so, and it's been driven every single day! It's going in the shop soon, so I'm trying to get as much "wheel" time in as possible!
Living in the Past, you sure do know how to spot your Cruisers! I was cleaning the thing out this afternoon and found a vin plate(?) for the tub/body marked April 1972. So, I suppose I do have a major "Franken40"...with some late model drivetrain stuff, early 70's tub/body/interior and a later...
Yep, your absolutely right! The rig in your pic and the one that I picked up look a lot different....unless you take a look at their frame and engine's (which I'm guessing look really, really similiar).
The vehicle is titled as a 1978 because the frame and engine are from a 78...the body is...
As for the interior, the split front bench and both rear jumpers have been recovered in new dark gray vinyl (SOR I think) and the dash looks to be all original with a newer pad. Most all of the pulls work, so far, and the wiper seems to work some of the time...whenever I hit the motor!
It's...
Rebuilt 2F
NV4500 5spd with low, low 1st
3spd Transfer case with twin sticks
I think that the 4" lift is a BDS. It's kind firm, but doesn't have a bad ride at all. I believe that the carb is a Weber 38/38, but I have the original in a box to be rebuilt if I want it.
Your right, it's kind'a got the 68 hood/bib thing going. The frame and rebuilt 2F engine are 12/78, and the body is a 73. It's also got power brakes up front.
I really like the "older" look. I also really like the look of the 4"lift and 33's on CCOT, but in person this rig just looks like...
It's finally here..! (with pics)
Well, after lots of wanting, reading And waiting....I'm the owner of my first FJ40. It's titled as a 12/78, but has the interior, and markings of an older one. Thanks to everyone on here for their help and advice! I certainly have some work to do now, but I'm...
Hi all,
I've recently purchased a running fj40 from a member here on Mud and the shipping that I've arranged keeps getting pushed back. The rig is located in Springfield, SD and I need to ship it to Huntington, WV.
Anyone able to help, or can recommend someone that may be able to?
Thanks,
Thanks for the post link...I've seen those, and like them all. The one in GA and the one in Franklin really interest me ( i could drive to Franklin)...
