I have a venerable '82 FJ60, but the choke cable has gotten very sticky.
The only replacements I see on the market are the ones for FJ60s from 10/82 onwards, which have the connection for something electrical. Not sure whether the electrical component is for the knob to light up (to remind you...
I'd happily pay for about a foot of rain gutter, or rain gutter and sheet metal running up about four inches above the gutter, if it's not rusted out.
(perferably from above the rear passenger door.) Have some long delayed rust mitigation projects that need to happen, and while welding in th...
I've looked at the thread where they discuss all of the coolant and heater, so I am unsurprised that this one is no longer available. However, I have a difficult time believing that no one else has had this hose fail on them, and needed a replacement - I figure someone has come up with a hose...
I pulled one of the switch dummies in my '82 FJ60, and the dimensions of the cutouts (based on the idea tha tthe plastic plug is aclose fit) would be 25 mm wide, by 33 mm tall.
The round plug to the lower right of the steering wheel, which is for the Hand throttle option, has a punch out that...
A year later, and I'm working on doing some of this kind of repair to my drip rails, to keep my '82 going for as long as possible.
And I have to say, looking at the handy cutaway photo the OP provided, showing the cross section of the side of the truck, the drip rail, and the roof cap, I'm kind...
My '82 FJ60 has some rust spots that I am suddenly motivated to repair.
And, while I feel pretty good about being able to weld in some patches where the body work is flat, or close to it, when I have a more complex piece to fix, it seems that gettgin a matching hunk of body to weld into place...
I've looked over the various threads on dealing with removing rust and cracked ancient putty form the rain gutters, and applying new self-leveling putty, etc.
My question is, does that putty apply directly to the bare metal in the bottom of the gutters (after they've been cleaned and all old...
Thanks!
I'll have to remember to look there first.
Cruiser Corps had previously been good for parts.
Not sure what others do who get the pre-packaged collection of drum brake hardware for the 60, and discover there is no way you can install the pins and springs supplied.
Anyone else have this issue?
Rebuilding my drum brakes (because of frozen bellcranks).
Ordered the "hardware kit"(springs, C or U clips, cups and hold do w n pins or "nails").
Every thing seems to be correct except the pins and springs.
They shipped TWO sets (4 each) of the pins, in two...
Yeah. Once I got to look at them in detail, I figured out that the newer versions ARE still aluminum, but with a very nice anodized coating.
They did do away with the internal steel sleeve, and now provide lovely nylon , (or Delrin or Teflon or some plastic) washers to keep the steel bellcrank...
In a recent thread, I discussed workignon repairing my jammed up emergency brakes on my '82 FJ60.
(Really, I had only let it no tbe driven for a month or two...)
When I extracted the two bellcrank assemblies, the problem was completely clear.
The cranks were frozen in place, inside teh steel...
Went with the full kit of Toyota parts from CruiserParts.
Hopefully that will arrive soon.
And with the rig up on stands, I'll have to see what else I can poke at back there.
Fabulous answer!
While that would be my inclination, not gonna happen.
When I started to debug the brakes issue, I was concerned for the regular drums and shoes (which both appear fine), and figured, while I have all this off, I should pull the hubs and repack and/or replace the wheel bearings...
Made the msitake of NOT driving my '82 FJ60 often enough.
Discovered that the ebrake wasn't releasing properly, and seemed to be causing the drums to drag.
Decided that it might be time to look at the drumbrakes. Been driving the rig for almost 40K miles, and it's coming upon 210K total. No...
Recently, had a cold snap in these parts. A bit below freezing for a few days, snow & freezing rain.
Chose to drive the Cruiser, due to conditions.
Wasn't worried about the temps, as I knew I had ample antifreeze.
Drive slowly over big hill near start of my commute.
On the downhill, notice wisps...
I'm a bit surprised by some of the comments.
I've got a stock '82, 2F, with all the emissions gear in place. California.
And it has about 205K on it. Purchased at 170K 4 years ago.
Primarily used for trips to wilderness, most of which include going over the Sierras, or other mountain ranges...
What "size" did you use? The Amazon page for these lists quite the collection, including at least 3 or 4 that are "H4".
Which one are you running?
This will need both H4 Halogen housings AND a new harness?
Argyre
Thanks, Elbert.
The repair procedures look to be quite straight-forward. ANd I probably will take it to a front end shop to check it, and alignment/camber, just out of a sense of paranoia.
My assumption was that if this component failed, it was a good time to replace all the similar...
As I was dashing out of the house this morning, I paused long enough to whip the phone out, hold it under the front bumper and snap a few shots of the area near the Pittman Arm and the steering gearbox. When I looked at the shot, the problembecame VERY clear.
The Pittman Arm ends in a...
