8 Amps is a lot of current

8 amps is huge! A relay or even a high cuurent contactor should only draw 1 -3 amps max. Are you sure its not .8 on your meter, in that case it would be 800 MA and possibly a relay coil. Have someone lift the wire at the power source off and on and go listen for something making and breaking. A...

    Rewiring a 40

Just remember to fuse everything at the connection close to the battery. If a hard short occurs the wire may not melt, wrather it will become a light filament and most likely start a fire.

    more sled dog propaganda --

fairly feekin sick I'd say. My wife just spent $300 on her 13 year old cat. " Older cat make up." Kidneys, urine blood etc. WOW I thought kids were expensive... they are! We would gladly take two or three of the Colorado dogs.

    350 vs. 2F

Anyone who is slightly mechanically inclined can work on either motor. The f motor is the most simple in my opinion. Far more simple than my 78 350 with an Eldelbrock carb. I think we were discussing why we preferred one over the other. In Mexico I can get Chevy parts. On the Con there is a Napa...

    350 vs. 2F

I own a chev 350 and a 1f. The Chev gets worse fuel economy but I have two tanks. To me the best of the two engines is I can buy Chev parts at any Napa or Kragen down the corner.

    Carry a spare...yes or no?

Run a spare in summer because you could blow out a side wall. No spare in Winter cause of the weight over snow. Carry tire repair stuff and on board air.

Bought A Winch With No Idea

Its electrical needs are lots and loys of high current. Perhaps as much as 400 amps. You need to connect the winch supplied wire to your battery with as good an electrical connection as possible. Keep the two feed wires as short as possible. Be sure your battery and alternator are in good...

    Best Ice Cooler

When on an expedition for a week or more without the possibility of ice resupply I purchase dry ice in 1 inch slabs. I carefully put them in brown paper bags and wrap zip lock bags around them. I then put them in the very bottom of my chest. We also judiciously keep the chests out of the sun. i...

I drove my 71 40 from Orange County CA to the Bay of Los Angelos in mid Baja with three of us in my cruiser. Had no problems whatsoever.. Except excess of course.

    Hood Steam

Both my cruisers, 1 V8 1 1f have "water vapor" cominig off the entire engine hood when it is raining. I figure the nice warm hood causes this pleasant display. I have calibrated analog water temp gages and they read 195. I suspect there is nothing wrong occurring. JB

March 19, 2003 - Cruising in the Snow

The snow cat did not break trail. A 48 Jeep flattie did, that can go anywhere anytime cause its so light. The three best vehicles on the trip were the sprung over 40 w 350, and 38's, the Jeep flattie and the red 40 w 350 turbo 400 and 35's The other vehicles did not go as far because they were...
