Spring washers at ends of 3-piece exhaust manifold, parts question

Corrugated spring washers are used in addition to the two seal rings at each end of the 76-87 OEM 2F exhaust manifold. Are one or two of these washers used at each end? I was surprised when the Toyota parts drawing my local dealer pulled up showed two rings at each end (part #17147 on the...

    sealant

Can anyone describe the differences between the two Toyota FIPG sealents? It would be useful to know which applications each is best suited for. The names "transaxle case sealant 1281" and "engine sealant 103" are a bit cryptic. I'm rebuilding the FJ60 and it would be oh-so-nice to put it back...

    Front rotors removal...

48 in-lb is easy without a torque wrench. Make your own. Mark your ratchet handle 10 inches from the pivot. Hook your fish scale over the mark and pull on the scale until it reads 4.8 pounds. You're done. David

I didn't notice the difference when I removed them, so I didn't note their positions. The heavy one...

    Rear Axle Spindle Wear

Thanks for the information. There are a couple of unanswered question in this that should be of general interest as our 80s continue to log the miles and as more of us do our own hub inspections and service. The case I describe above is something of an anomaly (I hope) because it resulted from...

    Rear Axle Spindle Wear

Last weekend I disassembled the USDS rear hub on the unmodified “soccer mom” ’93 I bought about four months ago at 145K (FF, ABS, F/R diff locks). I recently serviced the other three hubs and hoped this would be a routine seal replacement and repack job. The first hint of trouble came when I...
