Sorry to say, but I agree. My old 73' will be parked during the winter months. The cold and salt here in Wisconsin just beat on it too badly. I have had 5 FJ's over the past 25 years and had a strong conviction that I would drive them year round and in all conditions... all 5 of them had...
wow. just spent the past 3 hours going over this entire thread for the first time. what a really neat journey. thanks for taking the time to post and thanks for doing Landcruisers justice.
Yip, I see a lot of diamond plate on the rear quarters and no doubt about it it's typically to cover rust and provide structure since this is a primary area our 40's rust out.
The horse can smell the barn
Yer getting close to that magic day you start it and go cruising. I have been watching you building this for close to 2 years now I think... been a very nice journey. I am a purest and at first was kind of turned off by your complete overhaul - but your quality of...
Thanks gents. How about the oil pan gasket or engine block mounts? Would you bother replacing those right away even if they appear to be in OK condition at the moment?
I am swapping my internally broke F engine with a used 2F engine.
I plan on bringing almost everything (water pump, distributer, carb, headers, alternator, etc.) across from my current engine.
I am looking to put together a list of off the shelf parts I should replace while doing the swap...
I recently had a similar issue. My secondary would not open and my cruiser would not stay running unless I manually held it open a bit... which is not the way things should work. I had taken apart my base and I think I messed my primary butterfly angle up as well.
Instead of buying a new...
I currently drive a crusier with the stock 3rd speed... considering the 4 speed only for the gear sync annoyance. If I had your opportunity I would go 4 speed.
bout a month ago I saw a thread where a guy asked the same question - but I could not find it.
i am gearing up to replace my main seal - any recommendations of what other "preventative maintenance" i should do while i have the transmission out?
i don't have a lot of history on the cruiser...
So Jim, can we just cap that return line if we want? Will the float needle valve hold back all the back pressure from the fuel pump or will she blow a hole in the side of a carb :hhmm:
My dad had a FJ55 growing up... man your pic brings back memories. Something about the smell of FJ's interior...all the same. Cruisers being absorbed into the earth are nothing new - drag it out and get r' going. Welcome :flipoff2: ;)
Bet you can find your copper washers online at McMaster Carr. You just need to know it's dimensions (ID, OD, thickness)... have a look and they might have banjo fittings as well.
I am a newbie...hope it's kosher to resurect an old thread like this.
Is the return line even necessary? I have a 73 with the original carb, but I have seen some set ups with the same carb as mine with the outlet simply plugged.
If the return line is necessary, back to Rocky's last...
